Fall Fling with Fun Lunch, Tomorrow, Oct. 31
We’re looking forward to our students having a fun time together in extended lunch gatherings led by upper school houses. We’ll provide lunch, play games and show off our costumes. We’ve pivoted to a mostly indoor plan due to weather, but please send coats with younger students for some short outdoor games. The guidelines:

Wear non-scary costumes inspired by literature or a historical figure from your student’s current history period. This is not a jeans and t-shirt day, so if your student doesn't dress up as a character, s/he must wear a uniform.
- Leave all weapons at home (including plastic ones.)
- House points are awarded to top costumes in Upper School.
We’ll need more parent volunteers for Fall Fling than our usual Fun Lunch staff, so please consider helping out. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered so far!

Thanksgiving Potluck, Thurs. Nov. 16
Our annual school-wide Thanksgiving Potluck will be held in the gym; families are invited to join their students for lunch as we give thanks for God’s presence and provision for our school. More details and volunteer signups can be found here.

Gratitude Challenge Resources Coming Nov. 2
In lieu of this month’s co-teacher connect meeting, resources will be available in the foyer outside of the sanctuary during drop-off. The Providence Family Gratitude Challenge runs from the second week of November until the end of the semester, giving families practical opportunities to cultivate long-lasting habits of gratefulness as we approach the holiday season.

Our next informational meeting will be next Tuesday, November 7, from 6:30-8:00PM, in the small sanctuary. This will be our first evening meeting for the school year so please feel free to tell any friends (website, Facebook). No RSVP is required.

Picture Day, Nov. 9-10
Mark your calendar for school portraits on Thursday, November 9 for Lower School (PreK-4th grades) and Friday, November 10 for Upper School (5th-12th grades). Please place your order via the order form here by November 15; any orders submitted after Nov. 15 will have an additional $25 late fee. Please note that the photographers we are using this year do not provide proofs, but they do have a money-back guarantee if you are not satisfied with your child’s photos.

Kindergarten Sibling Application Priority Deadline, Tomorrow, Oct. 31
If you have a new student (not currently enrolled at Providence) who you are hoping to enroll for the fall of 2024, you are welcome to submit an application for them either here or through going to the Resource Board in Blackbaud and selecting the Apply link. After completing this initial application, you will be assigned an admissions checklist to upload remaining application items (for example, essays and report cards). To find your child’s checklist, simply click on your applicant’s name under Children in your Blackbaud account.

For current families who submit a completed kindergarten application by tomorrow, October 31, our admissions committee will begin initial review of these applications and will start scheduling assessments in the month of November. Kindergarten sibling applications received after this date will be processed in January.

Fall Fling is meant to be a celebration of the joy of learning. We hope to portray the characters and stories that have provided nourishing food for our imaginations, and delight in the shared stories that bind our community. To that end, we pray:

Logic Retreat, Nov. 7
Reminder: The Logic School Retreat will take place on November 7 at the Baylor University campus. If you have not done so already (many of you have - thank you!), please make sure you fill out the permission form through your Blackbaud account, and let us know if you are available to drive. Please note that there is also a student waiver form, linked in the Blackbaud permission form, that must be printed out, signed, and returned to the North Desk for participation in the Challenge Course.

JCL Registration Opens in November
We are gearing up for another big year of competitions in Junior Classical League. All Latin students grades 7-12 are invited to participate. Competitions will be held in the Spring semester and include grammar, vocabulary, derivatives, Greek/Roman history, daily life, mythology, ancient geography, classical art, dramatic interpretation, speech, costumes, multiple types of art, athletics, creative writing, and trivia (with buzzers). Help us win a trophy at state! To sign up, bring a $5 registration fee to the North Desk during the month of November.

Varsity lost to CTCS in their final home game of the season. Next up are playoffs, which start tonight in Keene.

The Rams won their semi-final playoff game against Grace and will now play for the championship on Wednesday at 4pm.

The Rams lost a tough game on Saturday in the middle of a driving rainstorm. Their final game of the season will be this Saturday at noon.

Mrs. Rowe has taught at Providence since 2019 and graduated from the University of Mary Hardin- Baylor in 2008 with a degree in music education.
“I am grateful that teaching at Providence allows me to focus on fostering virtue—not simply teaching concepts. I am encouraged and expected (not just allowed!) to develop Christlike character in my students. For example, this year's reading of Because of Winn-Dixie allowed for classroom conversations on difficult topics like slavery. But more than just historical facts, these conversations were filled with biblical truths about how God would have us treat others. Being a Christian teacher [and being able to have these discussions] is freeing. It allows me to bring the most important part of my life—my relationship with Jesus—into each interaction with students, co-teachers, and co-workers. It means I can openly pray over, for, and with my students and their families. This job is unique in the best way! [Lastly, my] husband and I selected Providence for our own children primarily because of the collaborative model. We value the fact that other believers are joining with us to provide the relational, academic, and spiritual support needed for our children to flourish. It's an honor to now do that for parents in my own class. I enjoy the chance to celebrate the good things with the families in my classroom while also bearing their burdens alongside them on difficult days.”

Isaac Stringfellow,
10th and 12th Gr. Humanities

Mr. Stringfellow began teaching at Providence this year and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2023 with Bachelors of Arts degrees in Classics and in History with a certificate in Core Texts and Ideas.
“Classical education offers students and teachers alike the opportunity to talk about what really matters, the truth of God found in Scripture and His revelation to us through the natural world. Teaching history allows us to consider how previous generations of Christians understood that truth. Why did the Fathers of the Early Church create the Nicene Creed? How did the Crusaders justify their conquest of the Holy Land at the height of the Middle Ages? Why did the early Protestants break away from the Catholic Church, and was that even what they originally set out to do? Each of those questions… contains deeper questions about the nature of the Godhead, the believer's relationship with the Lord, and the believer's relationship with his brothers and sisters in Christ. It is that students have the opportunity to discuss these questions and understand how our forebears in the faith have answered those questions which deeply excites me about the classical model. [Moreover, teaching as a Christian] means modeling Christian virtue for the students. I've always been interested in the theological aspect of the faith, but being a teacher at Providence has driven me to be much more intentional in actually living that faith out. By displaying the morality and lifestyle of a Christian, I pray to influence my students and encourage them in their Christian journey. [Finally,] I like that the parents have a genuine interest in their childrens' schooling, [desiring not simply] an exceptional education [but also a] desire to see their children [growing in] virtue. [The parents I have met] at Providence are truly godly, and I find their investment in their children deeply reassuring. Admittedly, as a first-year teacher in the Rhetoric school, I don't yet know many parents very well, but as co-teachers and collaborators in the cause of Christian virtue, I appreciate their continuous work in raising such earnest, intelligent, and upstanding young men and women.”
