GREEN OUT Volleyball and Senior Recognition, This Thursday, Oct. 12
Show your school spirit by wearing green to school this Thursday! We’ll use our dress code for special days. (Please note that this is not a Fun Lunch Day). Then join us Thursday night for our second annual Green Out event - we would love to pack the Temple Nazarene gym in green! Tickets will be $3 for non-students and will be available at the door as space allows. After the Varsity game, we’ll honor our graduating senior volleyball athletes, Grace Herring, Lainie Illian, Bethany Duggan, and Bella Murrah.

Fall Conferences
Conferences have begun! We will close available appointments one business day ahead to give us time to assign rooms. Remember that Logic and Rhetoric conferences that did not take place today will be virtual. You can find both virtual and physical room assignments on your conference schedule through the resource board. It’s not too late to make an appointment there (video here) or by emailing your child’s teacher.

Fall Fling, Oct. 31
We’re looking forward to our students having a fun time together in extended lunch gatherings led by upper school houses. We’ll provide lunch, play games and show off our costumes. The guidelines:
-
Wear non-scary costumes inspired by literature or a historical figure from your student’s current history period. This is not a jeans and t-shirt day, so if your student doesn't dress up as a character, s/he must wear a uniform.
- Leave all weapons at home (including plastic ones.)
- House points are awarded to top costumes in Upper School.
We’ll need more parent volunteers for Fall Fling than our usual Fun Lunch staff, so please consider helping out.

ID Badges
Thanks to everyone for working with us as we instituted new badge protocols last week! We realize that new processes take time to get used to, and we appreciate your understanding of staff reminders and prompts to pick up badges. If you have recently uploaded a photo to Blackbaud in the last two weeks, please email Mrs. Hamson to make sure your badge is made with the next batch. Again, we appreciate your support of these new measures to improve safety on our campus during school hours!

Lilly Bonstead creates her impression of water lilies during the Kindergarten class’s annual trip to the UMHB pond. | |
Here’s a great thought from our discussion at Co-Teacher Connect last week:
“It is a valuable thing to be able to approach every person or object or book with a view to learning something from them.” (Consider This, p. 29)
Here’s something to apply, even on Fall Break! Who or what can you approach with fresh humility, with a mind to learning something new? Maybe a subject that is not a favorite, a person who is not impressive, or an experience you expect to be “boring.” Humble, teachable spirits are always open to surprising sources of wisdom and understanding.

New After School Tutoring Opportunities
3rd/4th grade Reading Club: We would like to invite 3rd and 4th grade students to attend Reading Club each day after school with Mrs. Rowe. Students will work their way through a reading curriculum that develops confident readers while ensuring each student is working at the appropriate level and moving ahead at his or her own pace. The club is free of charge and will end at 4:00. Students who attend may bring an after school snack. Once we have our list of participants, we will send out the start date, as well as more details about pickup. Please email Mrs. Rowe with any questions and to sign up!
5th Grade Math Tutoring
If your 5th grader needs some extra help with math concepts, please reach out to Mrs. Fothergill for more information on math tutoring!

Mrs. Hower has been teaching at Providence since 2019. She holds a B.A. in Theology from Puebla Bible Seminary in Puebla, Mexico.
“For me, one of the most exciting elements of classical education is the opportunity to share about God and to show the students how our beliefs affect all areas of our lives, including learning a language. I try to share intentionally in all of my classes, but one example occurred this week in AP Spanish. We were talking about how there are some conversations that we don't remember at all, and then there are some conversations we never forget. That allowed me to share a conversation I had with a missionary that completely changed the trajectory of my life. He asked me, 'What can you take to heaven when you die?' I quickly replied, 'Nothing,' but he answered and said, 'You can take other people with you,' Because of that conversation, I decided to study theology and go to the mission field. I love being able to share how God works. Being at Providence is a ministry to me and not a job. It is an opportunity to impact the lives of my students. [Moreover], I enjoy being able to communicate easily with parents, interacting with them about their student's progress, and partnering with them in their children's education.”

Miranda Lehmann,
First Grade
| |
Mrs. Lehmann has been teaching first grade at Providence since 2012 and serves as both the school’s Learning Difference Coordinator and the Grammar School Math Chair.
“I love that classical education embraces the concept of educating the whole child. Virtues guide instruction with content rich curriculum. I love the aquarium display project that the first grade students complete. You have sweet six year-olds learning rich vocabulary and learning to speak in front of others to demonstrate their understanding. [Additionally], I enjoy walking alongside parents as they homeschool their children in the great days and in the hard ones, helping to continually remind them, and myself, to keep an eternal perspective and choose the battles that will make lifelong impacts. Teaching at Providence allows me to focus on shepherding the students' hearts first. It means taking the time to practice and guide peer and personal interaction as they learn how to love others, love God, and work as unto the Lord.”
