Ask the Food Program

Question:

How do I drop a child from CACFP?

Answer:

Log into CACFP.Net: https://cacfpnet.com/Providers/NewHome.aspx On your home screen, under Claim Tools, select Drop a Child from Care. Complete the form and submit. Be sure the child(ren) you wish to drop have been gone from care for 60 days so no currently-processing claims or late claims are affected.

Confused about Whole Grains?

Not sure how to identify whole grain sources from among the many grain-based products? National CACFP offers this great resource about Identifying Whole Grain-Rich!

Grain-Based Desserts

Baking for the holiday season? Remember: Grain-based desserts are not creditable on the Food Program. Find out the difference between a grain-based dessert and other foods, like muffins and breads, which are creditable on the Food Program.

USDA Milk Requirements

The USDA fluid milk requirements are developed to ensure that children receive the nutrients they need to grow and develop. Remember: 2% milk is NOT reimbursable.

Creditable and Non-Creditable Cheeses

Natural cheese, cheese food, cheese product: What’s the difference? This handout from DPI is a handy guide to creditable and non-creditable cheeses.

Remember: Cheese food and cheese spread are NOT creditable for infants.

Tiering for Children Enrolled in Head Start and Early Head Start

Do you have one or more children enrolled in Head Start enrolled in your child care? According to DPI, “All children enrolled in Head Start, including Early Head Start, are automatically Tier 1 eligible with certification from the Head Start agency.”

Proper documentation of Head Start enrollment is:

1. A copy of the approved Head Start application; or

2. A document that includes:

  • Certification that the children are currently enrolled in Head Start
  • Name or signature of Head Start personnel providing the certification
  • Date of certification

The above documentation must be provided annually to verify a child’s continued eligibility for Tier 1.
