Newsweek recently ranked North York General Hospital the second best hospital in Canada and one of the top 100 hospitals in the world.
In a comprehensive review of 1,000 hospitals in 11 countries, Newsweek recently ranked North York General Hospital the #2 hospital in Canada and one of the top 100 hospitals in the world.

"This remarkable achievement reflects our highly skilled physicians and staff, dedicated volunteers and generous donors. We strive to put patients first in everything we do and this ranking reflects the success of our efforts."

Comforting hands
Arlene Lieberman received the call from the Graham & Audrey Rosenberg Family Cardiac Care Clinic while she was on vacation in Florida. She remembers the nurse said that her mother Ruth wasn't doing well and made sure to list the symptoms carefully. "I knew I had to come home," Arlene says.

"I immediately booked a flight back home, but knew she was in good hands. That's what this clinic provides: peace of mind."

When Dr. Ryan Margau rotated through North York General Hospital during the first year of his residency in diagnostic imaging, little did he know he would be back as a clinician a few years later. In fact, he grew up in Toronto and North York General was his community hospital. 

" I've always enjoyed problem solving, and radiology was a way to solve a diagnosis while making a difference in a patient's life," says our Chief of Radiology and Medical Director of Medical Imaging.

Anesthesiologists make patient care safer and less painful

Chief of Anesthesia Dr. Asim Alam leads a group of more than 30 anesthesiologists who provide a wide range of specialized medical care to patients inside and outside the operating room. 

He discusses the team's proactive approach to pain management in the emergency department for urgent hip fractures as well as other important initiatives.

Britney Butt believes she's in her chosen profession as a nurse specializing in wound and ostomy care. 

Britney is part of the Colorectal Cancer Program team at North York General Hospital. In her role as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, she cares for patients who require a stoma.
