If you would have asked me a year ago what I would be doing at the end of the
2025 school year I would have said starting the countdown to my retirement. I
am only a little over a year away from being eligible to retire from education.
After spending this year at HOCA I have decided I’m not ready to retire.
It is hard to believe we only have a few days left of our inaugural year at HOCA.
This has been a year of challenges and rewards. Reflecting back on the year has
made me smile. I have had one of the most rewarding years of my entire career
in education.
Starting from the ground up with this school has been quite an adventure. I
started in February of 2024 when my daughter, Ms. Lohr, and I were looking for
a school for my granddaughter, Charlotte, that aligned more with what we
wanted for her education. I remember coming to the first tour of the empty
building trying to imagine what it was going to look like as a school. I was just a
grandma that wanted the best for my grandchild.
A year and three months ago I would have never believed I would be finishing
up my first year of teaching at HOCA. The people I have taught beside, the
students I have educated and the parents I have met have made this year a true
pleasure.
As we finish up the last few weeks I want everyone to have a very productive,
positive and fun time wrapping up this great first year. We all need to reflect on
where we were last August/September and how we are finishing strong this
June. It has been a pleasure teaching my wonderful group of third graders. I will
miss them this summer but will be looking forward to seeing them in the Fall
starting their year as fourth graders. They will always have a special place in my
heart because we went through this first year together.
I wish all of you a safe, happy summer filled with family, friends and fun.
