What does effective leadership look like at this stage of your career?
Join the Betsy Magness Leadership Institute (BMLI) to connect with industry leaders and sharpen your perspective on leadership and strategy.
BMLI is a selective, cohort-based experience with a 30+ year track record of excellence, convening VPs, Senior Directors and equivalent leaders from across the media, entertainment and technology ecosystem.
Through BMLI, participants will:
- Create protected time to clarify their leadership point of view, values and vision
- Work with executive coaches using assessment-based insights to strengthen influence and decision-making
- Learn alongside a high-caliber peer cohort navigating the same complexity, pace and visibility
Participants leave as Betsy graduates with clearer priorities, an expanded enterprise perspective and a peer network they can draw on as their scope grows. Many graduates go on to larger roles and broader impact after completing BMLI.

Be Your Own Ally: Why Showing Up for You First Matters
Based on the book You, Me, We: Why We All Need a Friend at Work (and How to Show Up As One!), this interactive session will explore the five practices of an Ally Mindset: Abundance & Generosity, Connection & Compassion, Courage & Vulnerability, Candor & Debate, and Action & Accountability. We most often think of these qualities in reference to how we show up in our relationships with others, AND it also applies to how we take care of ourselves. In this interactive session, you will learn how to “show up” as a friend for yourself first, so you can then show up for others in a more connected and meaningful way.
The audience will leave with:
- An increased awareness of the impact on your life when you do not prioritize self-care.
- An understanding of how the five qualities of an Ally Mindset apply to oneself.
- Increased self-awareness of how you consistently show up for yourself.

Be the CEO of Your Career
Most professionals were taught how to follow a career path. Very few were taught how to actively lead one.
In an industry shaped by constant change and consolidation, waiting for clarity is no longer enough. This session invites WICT members to step into the CEO role of their own careers and make intentional decisions about visibility, influence and direction.
Drawing on over 25 years in senior leadership and her work coaching leaders across industries, Karen introduces a practical framework for leading a career with clarity, agency, and strategic intent. Participants will learn how to communicate their value with confidence, navigate transitions without losing momentum, and design opportunities rather than react to change.
Participants will leave with:
- A stronger identity as the CEO of their own career.
- Clear language to communicate their value with confidence and influence.
- A practical framework for navigating transitions and pivots.
- Tools to make strategic career decisions instead of reactive ones.

National Mentoring Month
January 1–31
| | |
Mentorship is one of the most powerful ways to build community and support growth in the workplace. Through the TechConnect Mentoring Program, our partnership with the SCTE Foundation has connected women in technology with experienced mentors since 2011.
The 2025–2026 cohort is already thriving, participating in mentoring sessions, webinars and networking opportunities that foster learning and meaningful relationships.
Here’s what our mentors love most about mentoring:
| | | | |
Mickie Calkins
"Mentoring is the gift of connecting to a living and breathing future. My experience of mentoring has repeatedly reignited my fire and commitment to the industry. I'm able to see it through the ambitious and creative eyes of my amazing, hard-working, and earnest mentees. I’m buoyed by the growth I witness and honored to have the opportunity to nurture and shape future talent for the industry. I experience true joy when I can reflect on my own career, share my learnings, and help someone else who might use it to navigate the wild river that leads to their own version of success. This connection is human, real, and oh so fun."
| | | | |
Lori Spencer
"Mentoring has become a highlight of my professional opportunities. Connecting with motivated women who aspire to build more for themselves in all aspects of their lives is truly inspirational to me. I have cherished the mentoring relationships I have formed, which have continued beyond the formal mentorship program. These special people uplift me and I learn from them all the time. I’m so grateful to be a part of it!"
