Congratulations Class of 2021 Alumni, Shaun Antonio & Giselle Irio!

Burrell College Alumni Giselle Irio and Shaun Antonio were among the winners announced by the Coalition on Physician Education (COPE) for the Medical Student Curriculum Challenge: Innovative Learning and Teaching About Substance Use/Opioid Use Disorders. Giselle and Shaun worked with other members of the Student Osteopathic Medical Association Opioid Overdose Prevention Task Force to produce their Curriculum: Reduce overdose deaths by increasing naloxone distribution efforts while educating them about opioid/substance use disorder, harm reduction, and medical-assisted treatment (MAT).

In Case You Missed It: June 2021 Diversity Series Session Featuring Dr. Jamie Weinand, DO

For the June Diversity Series session, our guest speaker is Dr. Jamie Weinand, a primary care physician based in Tucson, Arizona who has experience in addiction medicine. Dr. Weinand is transgender and during our session, he discusses the implications of identity in the field of medicine, how medical school faculty can support LGBT+ individuals, and how care providers can support LGBT+ patients.

The Southwest Foundation for Osteopathic Education & Research has approved its rebrand! Keep an eye out for updated Foundation information featuring our new name and logo. This rebrand will open the Foundation for more fundraising opportunities in the near future. The final roll-out date for the rebrand is set for September 1.
