The Arc Mercer employees and UWGMC IRS Tax Volunteers 

Two New Partnerships

United Way of Greater Mercer County (UWGMC) and Mercer CASH campaign expanded its free tax program to include two new locations: The Arc Mercer, a nonprofit providing comprehensive services to people with special needs and developmental disabilities, and Mercer County Community College (MCCC). The expansion allowed more individuals to file their taxes for free and get connected to Federal Benefits such as food stamps (NJSNAP) and health insurance. Also at MCCC, accounting and business students gained a real-world experience by certifying as IRS tax volunteers. UWGMC is excited about the expansion of the program to both of these locations. A special thank you to all the volunteers who supported the free tax program!
 

College Volunteers

Students preparing sandwiches during PB&J Race

The College of New Jersey's Student United Way (TCNJ SUW), is the only student chapter in Mercer County, that brings United Way of Greater Mercer County's work to life at a college campus. TCNJ SUW, recently held their 6th Annual Peanut Butter & Jelly Race. During the event, students assembled, packed and donated more than 1,000 peanut butter & jelly sandwiches to Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK). In 2018, TCNJ SUW, received an honorable mention from United Way Worldwide, the parent organization of local United Way chapters, for shining a light on the issue of hunger through their annual event. Congratulations to the TCNJ SUW Executive Board for their continued success!

A note from our President & CEO


I once read, "Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart." This profound statement caused me to pause and take stock. Last year, United Way of Greater Mercer County, was able to carry out its mission with the help of over 1,500 volunteers. These passionate and generous individuals gave up time on weekends, left work early, participated in training and donated their personal resources. I am truly grateful that United Way made it into their hearts.
