Dear Neighbors,
You may have heard the recent conversations at Commissioners Court regarding your property taxes. Unfortunately, my proposal for a flat tax rate was not supported. On September 17th, Commissioners Court approved the highest tax rate in Harris County history, along with $326 million in additional spending.
It is our responsibility, as Commissioners, to spend responsibly and make the most of what you already provide - not collect as much as the state will allow. It is also our responsibility to make difficult decisions in cutting waste and non-essential spending.
Harris County has a spending problem, not a revenue problem. If we are serious about affordability, we need to prioritize our statutory responsibilities and what the taxpayers expect from their county government: safer neighborhoods, reliable roads and infrastructure, flood protection, and other essential services.
Although I did not have the votes in court, Precinct 3 will continue to do the hard work in spending responsibly, eliminating bureaucracy, and providing the services that matter to you most.
With that - October brings a new season of fall festivals, movie nights, and community events like National Night Out. I encourage you to spend some time with us and meet some of your neighbors at our outdoor family activities.
And if you’re a United States military veteran, please be sure to sign up for our Veterans Appreciation Dinner on November 5th as we celebrate our nation’s heroes and thank them for all they have done for our great country.
Thank you for allowing me to represent you,
Commissioner Tom Ramsey
