Martin Luther School families have often entertained the idea of what it would take to establish a Lutheran high school. The MLS board has been in conversation with the Department of Public Education to examine how we can meet our students' needs if we offer our students the high school option.  Before moving forward, we would like to share with you what this could look like, answer any questions you may have, and glean interest from our current families before making any decisions.



EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION! It has been exciting to see the phenomenal growth in our middle school students since we implemented the classical approach! Having the middle school option has truly been a blessing. 

SPORTS AND MARTIN LUTHER MIDDLE SCHOOL: The topic of sports has always been a question families have raised. We are back in the co-op with BPS. Middle school students interested in sports successfully participated in the sports programs at their respective school districts this past year!

I have been involved with Martin Luther School in some way over the past 25-plus years as teacher/administrator and a parent of three children who have attended Martin Luther School, I can honestly say that we are on the cusp of "turning the page" to the next step. The richness of classical education is something that we do not want to take for granted.

While this meeting is primarily intended for parents of our current 5-8^th grade students, any interested parties are welcome to an information meeting Thursday, January, 9^th at 6:30 at MLS.

We look forward to seeing many of you there!

Playground Plans

There has been much discussion about what to do to update our playground.  Through PTL fundraisers and other donations, we have raised considerable funds over the years. As good stewards, we need to plan wisely how we envision the playground project to proceed.

What are the immediate needs and/or simplest way to make improvements?

·       Wooden swing set needs to be removed!

o  What to put in the smaller area on the west side of school. (wooden playground.)

·       More swings need to be provided

o  Metal? Wooden? Location?

·       Different climbing components added

o  Geodome

o  Various balance components

Some suggestions have also been expressed. This would require more extensive fundraising.

·       A concrete slab and basketball hoop

·       Terracing the area on the south side of the 5^th grade room

·       Resurfacing the turf

·       An additional larger playground component

What maintenance needs to be addressed?

·       Engineered mulch

·       Metal top of the retaining wall

·       Wooden fence

What do our current funds cover for the items we would like to get?

While I might have a plan for how to move forward, I don’t want to limit this to just my ideas. I welcome the insights and creativity of others and propose that we establish a playground committee and start moving forward. I would welcome input from teachers, parents, as well as a voice from Zion properties.

THANK YOU for making the purse raffle a big success! The money raised will be used towards the playground updates.

Art Club Updates



There will be NO Art Club on December 18th.

HELP NEEDED - In the Kitchen

We are looking for extra help in the kitchen to help Miss Carmen. If you are interested in coming in, please take a look at the sign up form below. We are looking for help each day from 9:30-12:00pm to prepare and serve lunch. It is a great way to see students!

MLS GUARDIANS



Martin Luther School Guardians is a program to involve the fathers/father figures at our school. We appreciate the gifts that they can bring whether be assisting with security or engaging with students at in various activities such as lunch, recess, or chapel. Your presence can make such a difference in the lives of our students.

We are asking male volunteers to be present during the day at Martin Luther School. The amount of time available is not limited to a whole day. We would appreciate a volunteer sign up for at least a half day (morning or afternoon) but if you are only able to be present a few hours, please do not hesitate to sign up.

To become a MLS Guardian, please fill out the Volunteer Form and submit. Please fill out and return the Authorization for Background Check to the school office. Forms are also available in the school office. Once the appropriate documentation is submitted, please sign up to spend time at Martin Luther School as the MLS Guardian. Each Guardian will receive a T-shirt to wear during your time in school acting as the MLS Guardian

Remind



We use the Remind app to inform our families about cancellations due to weather, any emergencies that may arise, as well as general reminders about concerts, events, etc. To join our group, follow the procedure as is shown in the photo.
