Q: How did you become involved with FLC, as a student and alumni?
A: As a high school student, I was encouraged to explore opportunities outside of my usual interests and activities. Although theatre was far outside of my comfort zone, I was drawn to Justice Sunday after meeting FLC staff and learning about the organization's approach to youth leadership, community engagement, and storytelling. As an alumna, I am grateful for the opportunities FLC provided and remain committed to supporting programs that empower young people to develop leadership skills, engage with their communities, and recognize the value of their voices.
Q: Can you share a little about your educational background/journey? Do you have a current educational goal you're working towards?
A: After graduating from SOAR High School, I attended UCLA, where I earned a degree in Sociology and completed a minor in Spanish. One of the most valuable lessons I learned is that there is no single "right" way to navigate college. Because students often ask me about college, I encourage them to stay open to new experiences, seek out mentors, and remember that success does not always follow a straight line. My current goal is to continue growing professionally and educationally so that I can better support young people as they pursue their own goals.
Q: In what ways would you say your educational experience has informed your role in FLC?
A: Throughout my academic journey, I benefited from mentors, educators, and community members who encouraged me to explore new interests, ask questions, and pursue goals that initially felt outside of my reach. Whether through youth leadership initiatives, mentorship opportunities, or community engagement programs, I believe it is important to help young people see possibilities for themselves and provide them with meaningful opportunities to grow.
Q: What are some of your long-term goals for your role at FLC?
A: One of my long-term goals is to continue expanding opportunities for youth leadership and civic engagement throughout the Antelope Valley. I am especially excited about the growth of the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) and helping ensure that young people have meaningful opportunities to share their perspectives, build professional relationships, and engage with community leaders.
Q: Share a proud moment with FLC this year!
A: One of my proudest moments this year has been watching the continued growth of the Antelope Valley Youth Advisory Council (YAC). YAC continues to demonstrate the impact that can occur when young people are given meaningful opportunities to lead, and I am proud to be part of an organization that invests in their growth and success.
