A Few Questions With

Blake Adkins

Account Manager

Congratulations on your recent promotion! What has been the biggest shift in your responsibilities moving from Assistant Account Manager to Account Manager? The biggest shift is getting stuff done vs. managing the process of getting stuff done. A lot of the AAM role is doing tasks whereas you progress up, it’s focusing on managing the process and much more delegating. That's been the biggest shift for me and something I am still working on. Additionally, I have not been in this side of the industry too long so I am still green when if comes to the finer aspects of coverages and how they interplay with risk for clients so I am still working to gain knowledge there.

Market Update

The commercial insurance market remains highly favorable for buyers. Yet the positives mask some underlying vulnerabilities.

AI is reshaping the risk landscape, driving new exposures related to liability, fraud, bias, and governance and prompting underwriting scrutiny and a rapid reevaluation of coverage terms.

Today’s market gives many buyers better field position, but potential shifts in economic, geopolitical, and loss trends make it critical to strengthen programs now, while conditions remain favorable.

From the Farm

I have always had a green thumb and have kept a large garden for as long as I can remember. My dad and I spent countless hours together working in his garden when I was growing up. He has been gone for more than twenty years, yet I still find myself talking to him when I am pulling weeds, picking vegetables, or on the on my garden tractor.

Daddy always said, “You can grow more corn on a crooked row.” As a kid, I thought he was talking about gardening. As an adult, I have come to realize he was talking about a lot more than that.

There is something deeply satisfying about planting, growing, tending, cooking, and sharing the fruits of your labor with family and friends. This year’s garden has been especially productive. Sweet corn, peas, cucumbers, cabbage, broccoli, sweet potatoes, watermelon, squash, and eggplant have all done well. In fact, once the garden reaches full stride, it becomes nearly impossible to keep up with everything it produces.

Do you remember the Disney Pixar movie Ratatouille? Recently, I found myself staring at a kitchen counter covered with fresh vegetables from the farm and decided to put them to good use. Lisa Bryan of Downshiftology has a fantastic recipe that I recently tried (pictured above). Click HERE to check it out and let me know if you make it.

It was outstanding.

Give it a try and enjoy a little taste of summer - from the farm!
