For 43 years, Women’s Resources of Monroe County has proudly served victims and survivors of domestic and sexual abuse and their families in our community.
We are now ready to embark on our new journey and introduce you all to our new identity; Safe Monroe. Safe Monroe embodies not only what we provide for those who come to us, but what we hope to achieve through our work moving forward. We are here to provide safety, hope, and healing, not only for women, but for anyone directly or indirectly affected by domestic and sexual abuse – of any sex, gender identity or age. We are where abuse ends, and hope begins.

“We’ve been serving the Monroe County community for over 43 years, compassionately empowering victims of domestic and sexual abuse to become survivors through free and confidential counseling, advocacy and shelter. We help people who are directly affected by abuse, and those who are indirectly affected including family and friends.
Changing our name to Safe Monroe represents a significant milestone for our organization as it aligns our identity with our mission and our vision for a safe community for everyone. Our new brand reflects the inclusive and welcoming environment we strive to create for anyone who needs our support."
- Executive Director, Lauren Peterson

CELEBRATING OUR SAFE MONROE STAFF!
We'd like to thank and congratulate everyone involved in collaborating and supporting our new journey to provide safety and hope for Monroe County as Safe Monroe.
We could not have created our new identity without the insight of our staff and board members and we cannot provide our services without our direct service providers, our volunteers and our administrative team.
Thank you all again for helping to create a safe haven for those impacted by domestic and sexual abuse in our community. You are the reason that we are Where Abuse Ends and Hope Begins.

CANDLELIGHT VIGIL!
#EVERY1KNOWSSOME1
We’re joining The National Network to End Domestic Violence #Every1KnowsSome1 campaign, because it's true. We all know some 1. That 1 can be a friend. Family member. Co-worker. Domestic violence doesn't discriminate. Together, we can all play a role in ending it.
Join us on Wednesday, 10/18/2023 for our annual Candlelight Vigil in honor of those impacted by domestic and sexual abuse.

JAX'S STORY
"For me, it began as playful fighting..."
But as time went on, it became more and more malicious. They went from hitting my arm to slapping my face to the point of leaving handprints.
Whenever I would attempt to block their hits or protect myself, they would respond with "I'll hit you two times harder if you do that again", or since I'm a masculine-presenting person and they were a feminine-presenting person, they'd say, "Block me again and I'll tell everyone you hit me."
In fear that their word would be believed over mine, due to their smaller frame, and that I would be shamed by others, I let the abuse continue... But finally, having other people witnessing them lashing out at me is what gave me the chance to speak up.
I opened up to my friends about my abusive relationship after 6 months. They believed me, they listened to me, they comforted me and cried with me. Most of all, they loved me and helped me get back up when I was down at my lowest.
