A Message From Our Founder…
Seriously?? It’s the start of another year?? Where does the time go?? Well, that is life I guess and I am THANKFUL that we are all here!
HAPPY NEW YEAR FMAA!!!
Most people I know really love the beginning of a new year. It’s the time when they think about their lives and what they did or did not do in the previous year. It’s the time when people make resolutions, set goals, all those good things. I do it every year as well. I too enjoy the process of self reflection and challenging myself to do things I have not yet done and to “stay on track” with my professional and personal goals.
What are your resolutions for 2024?
Last year I listened to a great talk on how to set realistic goals that people can actually stick to. I decided to listen to that again. The premise is that the reason most New Years resolutions fail is that people try to do too much too fast. Honestly there is so much wisdom in setting smaller “daily” goals then big lofty ones. Smaller “changes” tend to be easier to follow through with. My main goal last year was to start playing my ukulele again. I was doing pretty well with it and then a year and a half ago (now 2 and a half years) my dog Bella died, and I just stopped. My dog Bella would always be at my feet when I practiced. She was just “there.” Without her I think I have felt like something was missing from my practice. Well the honest truth is that I did pretty well with that for about two weeks into 2023, and then life got in the way. My mom who lives in Sacramento took a bad fall, there was A LOT at work…and so I did none of what I had set out two do.
So it’s a new dawn, a new day, a new year and this is my resolve…I will start over and attempt this again. I will invite my dog Bella to be here with me everyday when I pick up my ukulele, which has been sitting out on it’s stand by my desk, for 2 1/2 years now, and I will learn to play. I have many photos of Bella and other things around me that I see everyday, that remind me of her. So I will just know that she is with me and, I WILL play again (-:
I do have a few other goals but that is my main one.
What are your resolutions? Maybe you are like me and you (or your child) want to practice your music everyday(-:
To help you along with that, Fresno Music Academy & Arts is offering practice journals to anyone that would like one. I did this last year and I thought it would be a good idea to do here at FMAA every year!
Practice journals are a way to help keep you or your child “on track” with music lessons. It can help one set reasonable goals and help to become the musician you/they want to be.
The practice journal is a combination of materials I borrowed from several websites and my own thoughts about practicing. ( So I cannot take credit for this entirely.) I hope that you and/or your child find this useful. They will be at the front desk
Happy New Year!
Love
Deb
