BABY ITEMS NEEDED for MIGRANT FAMILIES

Clergy & Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE), an interfaith organization, is part of a coalition of nonprofits that are helping migrants and their families who arrive in Los Angeles with no–or very few– resources. Their current drive is focused on very young children, and the Mission Committee at St. Bede’s is hoping we can contribute.

CLUE is looking for baby formula (liquid or powdered) in all size packages (new and sealed), baby bottles (new and sealed), car seats and booster seats (either new or in good condition), and strollers (new or clean and in good working order).

Liz Bar- El of CLUE is scheduled to come talk to the 10 a.m. service on Sunday, March 3, about the drive. For more information, please check out this link. Or you can talk to a member of the Mission Committee. Thank you !

A newsletter serving the diocese of Los Angeles

Bishops’ visits set to and from Diocese of Taiwan, Diocesan Council hears at March meeting

By Pat McCaughan

Bishop Lennon Yuan-Jung Chang of Taiwan’s recent visit to the Los Angeles diocese signals exciting possibilities for mission, evangelism, and ministry between the two, Bishop John Harvey Taylor reported to Diocesan Council at its March 14 online meeting.

“This is very important to us for any number of reasons,” said Taylor, noting that delegates to the November 10 - 11, 2023, annual meeting of the Diocese of Los Angeles overwhelmingly had approved a three-year companion partnership with the Taiwan diocese.

“We are a Pacific state and have among us many members of the Chinese diaspora, and in our recent political history have had the experience of people of Chinese background being falsely and dangerously scapegoated for circumstances beyond their control, namely the Covid pandemic,” said Taylor, who also blogged about Chang’s visit.

Chang had stopped in Los Angeles enroute to the Feb. 28-March 4 regular meeting of the House of Bishops at Camp Allen in Navasota, Texas, which Taylor also attended. Taylor, along with Canon Kathy O’Connor, intends to visit Taiwan this September as that diocese celebrates its 70th anniversary, he said.

Episcopal Church pairs online concert with annual Good Friday Offering, supporting Middle East ministries

By David Paulsen

Each year, Episcopalians are encouraged during Holy Week to donate to The Episcopal Church’s Good Friday Offering in support of Anglican ministries in the Middle East. This year, they also are invited to spend part of their Good Friday viewing a concert offered by the church to help center themselves spiritually for the holy day that marks Jesus’ death on the cross.

The concert of sacred music, hosted by Christ and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Norfolk, in the Diocese of Southern Virginia, will be available to view at 3 p.m. Eastern March 29 on The Episcopal Church’s online platforms. Online donations can be made now, and Episcopal congregations churchwide will collect the Good Friday Offering at in-person Good Friday services.

“Every human child of God – Palestinian, Israeli, Iraqi, Cypriot, Lebanese, everyone – deserves safety and security,” Presiding Bishop Michael Curry said in his Lenten message, in which he encouraged Episcopalians to give to the Good Friday Offering. “As we mark our Lord’s passion and death on Good Friday, we remember those whom he loves facing injustice and oppression today, and remember the urgency of love – true, sacrificial love.

The Good Friday Offering was created in the aftermath of World War I to foster relationships with Christians in the Middle East by supporting relief work and ecumenical partnerships. Today, the church continues to give the money that is raised each year through the offering to the Anglican Province in the region, the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East, to support what it identifies as the most pressing needs in its dioceses.
