GET READY TO ZOOM
With classes set to open in less than two weeks, it may be time to refresh your Zooming skills. Hope you’ve been having lots of practice with LLAIC’S Wintersession and special programs. But just in case:
- Would you like a classroom primer? Willia Cooper, who ran several Zoom classes last semester for hosts and members, will be back this semester with LEARNING IN A VIRTUAL WORLD, a half-hour program for beginners on MONDAY, MARCH 1, at 3:00 p.m. Request an invitation here by noon on Sunday, February 28. We will cover everything from signing in and recognizing the icons to basic Zoom etiquette.
- Check Zoom Central on the LLAIC website. There are several articles for your perusal – some written by our own members.
- Ever lose an invitation to a Zoom meeting and have to scramble two minutes before the meeting starts? You may want to set up a mail folder called UPCOMING ZOOM MEETINGS where you can store your confirmations and your invites.
- For each of your courses, you will receive a recurring invitation at the beginning of the semester which will be good for all of the sessions. This is another good thing to add to your Upcoming Zoom Meetings folder, even though you will also receive a reminder email invite the day before each class.
Happy Zooming!

AND EVERY MORNING THE WAY HOME GETS LONGER AND LONGER
BY FREDRIK BACKMAN
FRIDAY, MARCH 12 10:30-12:00
|
|
Sign up here before registration closes at noon on Thursday, March 11, to request a Zoom invitation. You'll receive an invitation by 3 p.m. that day. The meeting will open 15 minutes early so we can socialize before we begin the discussion. Contact Joan Chasan if you have trouble signing up.
An exquisitely moving portrait of an elderly man's struggle to hold on to his most precious memories, and his family's efforts to care for him even as they must find a way to let go. With all the same charm of his bestselling full-length novels, here Fredrik Backman once again reveals his unrivaled understanding of human nature and deep compassion for people in difficult circumstances. This is a tiny gem with a message you'll treasure for a lifetime.

COME TO OUR LLAIC ZOOM HAPPY HOUR!
THURSDAY, MARCH 18 4:00-5:00 P.M.
Our February Happy Hour started with the usual talk of vaccines; but then it went on to athletes and performers controlled by stage parents, self-driving cars, the Mars landing, the likelihood that our grandchildren won't know what typewriters and slide rules and carbon paper and phone books were, and what a third-party candidate might do to a national election.
We hope you'll join us again on Thursday, March 18, from 4 to 5 p.m. We should have lots of new things to talk about as well as the old ones. Bring your drinks, snacks, and conversation.
Watch this space for a link to request a Zoom invitation.

MOVIE MAVENS
FRIDAY, MARCH 19 2:00 P.M.
|
|
Watch this space for the name of the movie that we'll watch on our own, then meet on Zoom for a lively discussion about our impressions. We'll be posting the link you can use to receive your Zoom invitation at the same time.
