CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?
LLAIC is proud to announce a new feature that can make your Zoom experience even more enjoyable. We can now offer to our members closed captions for our Zoom classes and affinity groups! Our tech support staff have learned how to enable closed captions (noted on the Zoom screen as an icon block with "cc" in it and called Live Transcript). If you like to take advantage of this service, please let your course leader or affinity group leader know and the attending tech support can make it happen. If "cc" is enabled, members can choose individually to either "show" the captions or "hide" the captions, whichever they prefer. This is a wonderful new service for any LLAIC members who have difficulty hearing.

Someone had to leave early to get news of a brand new great-grandchild.
We hope you'll join us again on Thursday, April 15, from 4 to 5 p.m. We should have lots of new things to talk about as well as the old ones. Bring your drinks, snacks, and conversation.

MOVIE MAVENS
FRIDAY, APRIL 16 @ 2:00-3:00
|
|
The Movie Mavens film choice for April is “Force Majeure,” a gripping tale of near disaster and an imploding marriage.
“Force Majeure” is described in the N.Y. Times as a “brilliant, viciously amusing takedown of bourgeois complacency, gender stereotypes and assumptions, and the illusion of security.” From the L.A. Times: "This filmmaker is in control at each and every moment, and does he ever know what he is doing." And from one more critic: “Force Majeure” is “a prickly moral comedy for grown-ups, full of sharply observed moments, spectacular scenery and masterfully manipulated atmosphere.”
One note of warning: Make sure you find the 2014 version of “Force Majeure” because apparently an inferior remake was done in 2020.
We will watch the film on our own, available on Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, and free on Hoopla and Kanopy. We will gather on Zoom on Friday afternoon April 16 at 2:00 PM for a lively discussion.
Click here for an invitation by noon on Thursday, April 15, and you will receive the invite by 3:00 that afternoon.

LLAIC LOVES ART
CRYSTAL BRIDGES MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 21 @ 1:45-3:00
|
|
Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is nestled into the Ozark Forest on a 120-acre tract of land in the heart of Bentonville, Arkansas. The three pillars of Crystal Bridges are Art, Architecture, and Nature. Guests experience a seamless integration of these elements as they move about the campus.
The museum was designed by Moshe Safdie, the internationally acclaimed architect who has created many outstanding structures around the world, including the Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem and Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
Your tour will take you on a brief trip around the campus and introduce you to works from Crystal Bridges' Permanent Collection of American Art, including sculptures from its art trails as well as highlights from the 3300+ art works that span 5 centuries of American masterworks ranging from the colonial era to the present day - such as Norman Rockwell's Rosie the Riveter.
Presenter Jann Pittman is a retired non-profit executive who has volunteered at Crystal Bridges for over six years. She has led tours of the art, architecture, and sculpture for more than five years. Jann is fond of saying that everything she knows about art and architecture, she learned at Crystal Bridges.
To request an invitation for the program, click here before noon on Monday, April 19. You'll receive your invitation or notification of your status by 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20.
