NEWS

RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS ARE STILL WITH US

Now that we have started our second-half in-person classes, here is a reminder: please do not come to class if you are sneezing, coughing, feeling feverish, or having any other symptoms. In other words, if you are sick, stay home!

Also, if you are recovering from a respiratory infection but are still coughing, please wear a mask!

We are a high-risk group and need to protect each other.

FIND MY COURSE

Let’s do one more review of LLAIC’s class meeting days for the remainder of the fall semester.

  • All classes are meeting the week of October 29, 30, and 31.
  • Then, there are no Tuesday in-person classes on November 5 which is election day, because Temple Shalom is a polling place—with an obvious parking problem.
  • We do, however, have regular classes on November 6 & 7, for those of you who haven’t spent all night watching election returns!
  •  Regular classes the weeks of November 12 & 19.
  • Then, no classes the entire week of Thanksgiving (November 26, 27, & 28).
  • Last week of classes is December 3, 4, & 5, except for make-up classes or six-week classes (such as Sandy Sherizen’s. which will conclude on December 12).

In case you are now totally confused, you can visit our website, click on Courses, then click on Class Dates and you will see all this information again in a simpler form. Or look at the course description for your particular course here; it'll tell you the start date for that course. See you there!

TUESDAYS AT TEMPLE SHALOM

Although we do not have our wonderful LUNCH@LLAIC programming, we are still welcome to gather in the Schmooze Room for lunch between classes. Our hope is to schedule LUNCH@LLAIC again in the spring semester and include some of those great Curiosity University videos during our Zoom Wintersession.

AND THE SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6 @ 1:30

FOR THE CONTINUATION OF THE SERIES ENTITLED "BEYOND THE FRAME"

LLAIC Loves Art’s ongoing series with the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Beyond the Frame: American History through Artworks at SAAM, continues on Nov. 6 with session 3: Please remember that you do not have to have been present at sessions 1 or 2 to in order to join session 3. Beginning with the Civil War and stretching through WWII, artists’ depictions of America during troubled times reflect a changing national identity.  Discussion abounds in this conversational program, ably led by LeeAnn Lawch.

OUR LAST DINNER THEATER TRIP OF THE SEASON!

THE CONCORD PLAYERS:

 HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10 @ 2:00

The LLAIC Dinner Theater Committee is happy to announce a trip to the Concord Players to see a production of How I Learned to Drive, winner of the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, for a matinee on Sunday, November 10th at 2:00 p.m. We have reserved a limited number of tickets at $22 each so please register as soon as possible!

How I Learned to Drive by Paula Vogel is a darkly humorous and moving tale about a woman's complicated relationship with her charismatic uncle, following her path from adolescence to adulthood as she discovers family secrets and finds her way. Vogel's unfiltered examination of Li'l Bit's drive towards womanhood resonates as strongly today as when it was first staged Off-Broadway in 1997. Please be warned that this play deals with sexual abuse, incest, misogyny, and pedophilia.

The Concord Players are located at 51 Walden Street in Concord and street parking is free on Sunday. We will meet for lunch in Concord before the theater (instead of dinner). More information will be available closer to the theater date.

Click here for the registration form.

LLAIC LIT-LOVERS

A MORBID TASTE FOR BONES

BY ELLIS PETERS

LED BY JOE MORE

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 15 @ 10:30

A Welsh Benedictine monk living at Shrewsbury Abbey in western England, Brother Cadfael spends much of his time tending the herbs and vegetables in the garden—but now there’s a more pressing matter. Cadfael is to serve as translator for a group of monks heading to the town of Gwytherin in Wales. The team’s goal is to collect the holy remains of Saint Winifred, which Prior Robert hopes will boost the abbey’s reputation, as well as his own. But when the monks arrive in Gwytherin, the town is divided over the request.

When the leading opponent to disturbing the grave is found shot dead with a mysterious arrow, some believe Saint Winifred herself delivered the deadly blow. Brother Cadfael knows an earthly hand did the deed, but his plan to root out a murderer may dig up more than he can handle.

Click here before noon on Thursday, November 14, to request a Zoom invitation. You'll receive it that day. If you can, log on a quarter of an hour earlier to socialize.
