LUNCH@LLAIC CONTINUES
TUESDAYS AT TEMPLE SHALOM
175 TEMPLE STREET, WEST NEWTON
LUNCH STARTS AT 1, PROGRAM AT 1:30
Join us at Temple Shalom on all your Tuesday afternoons from September 15 through the end of the semester for lunch and a delightful program! Drop in before class, after class, or just for the program. Bring your own lunch (we provide designer water and hot beverages) or email Jennifer Young if you want to order pizza ($3 for one slice or $5 for two).
LUNCH@LLAIC is open to guests and no RSVP is necessary, so bring a friend! The next programs are as follows:
- 11/3 Partakers: Transforming Lives for Incarcerated Women and Men
Did you know that the United States constitutes only 5% of the world's population, and that we claim 25% of its incarcerated populace? Partakers, a Massachusetts-based non-profit organization, is dedicated to reducing recidivism by supporting formerly and currently incarcerated individuals through a unique community mentor model along with educational institutions that offer those incarcerated an opportunity to earn a bachelor's degree. At this presentation, you will hear from a member of Partakers' staff who is also a long-time mentor and two graduates of the “College Behind Bars” program. You will learn how Partakers creates support networks that foster sustained transformation when prisoners can return to their communities.
- 11/10 Joanne Fisher – Ancient Egypt, Drama, Spectacle, and Remarkable Characters
Why is ancient Egypt so compelling to us today? Why do we care so much about the gold, the pyramids, the hieroglyphic script, the mummies, and the extraordinary leaders like Nefertiti, Ramses, and Hatshepsut, people who flourished so many thousands of years ago? In this video presentation, we will learn about the uniqueness of Egypt, a protected realm full of riches and agricultural resources that allowed a divine kingship to develop. Ancient Egypt remains for us a place of mystery, fascination, and contradictions, and yet, we can also see the humanity of these extraordinary people.
Future programs:
- 11/17 Alex Conn and Leo Laverdure – Introduction to Chatbots and AI: Part 2
- 12/1 Don Bermont – Trivial Pursuit Game

LLAIC Loves Art Invites You To
FAME, FICKLE FAME:
The Life and Art of Artemisia Gentileschi
A Presentation and Conversation
with Phoenix Art Museum
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 11 AT 1:30 pm
Andy Warhol said, “In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.” Is fame fickle? Consider the careers of Taylor Swift, Lady Di, Elvis Presley, and so many others.
Artemisia Gentileschi knew what it was like to be famous, because she was famous in her lifetime. But she is not so famous these days. She is indisputably the greatest female artist of the Baroque Era, and some consider her to be one of the greats of all time. Let’s spend some time exploring her achievements with our Master Docent, Patrick Ventura.
As an architect, Patrick specialized in designing laboratories and pilot plants for large pharmaceutical companies. He is now retired and enjoys closely looking, researching and discussing art with the visitors of the Museum.
Click here before noon on Tuesday, November 10, to request a Zoom invitation. You'll receive it that day.

DINNER THEATER GROUP
"Mexodus"
AMERICAN REPERTORY THEATER
Wednesday, December 23, 2026 at 2:00 PM
The LLAIC Dinner-Theater Committee is thrilled to be offering our members tickets to ART’s Mexodus, a play which combines an historical story with live music! It was the MOST awarded Off-Broadway musical, including the NY’s Critics Pick, with substantial reviews in other cities as well. Mexodus is about the lesser-known southern underground railroad across the Rio Grande into Mexico where slavery had been abolished. This story raises questions about immigration, belonging, and how people from different backgrounds can help one another. The plot contains humor along with hip hop music.
We have a limited number of tickets for the 2:00pm matinee on Wednesday December 23rd. This production is guaranteed to be another sell out, so don’t delay. Mail the completed attached registration form with your check for $30, payable to Jackie Anapolle, or send your payment via Venmo to Shelly Levine (@Shelly-Levine-2). To guarantee a seat, please email Shelly asap (levineshelly@yahoo.com). Payment must be received by December 1st, after which time there will be no refunds.
We will also be arranging for lunch or dinner near the theater before or after the show for those who want to join us to share extra time together.

INVESTMENT DISCUSSION GROUP?
LLAIC is interested in restarting an investment group. We are not making investment decisions nor are we investing. We will talk about investments in general, types of investing, how to buy different products. Everyone is welcome as is your expertise or lack of. The first meeting the group will decide what would be most helpful. Don Bermont and Gary Glazer will facilitate the group. The last group met once a month. The group and facilitators should decide how often to meet and whether in person or on zoom.
Please contact Sue Goldberg susangoldberg007@gmail.com if you have interest or questions. Sue is gathering the list of participants to see if there is enough interest. If you are thinking about it, please let her know.
