Dear friends,
 
In December, North State Writer’s members celebrated the holidays in style. With a night at Logan’s Roadhouse and a gift to each of us. So much happiness and a blessing to all that we still have a place to meet and that we are still meeting.
May this new year of 2022 bring us all prosperity, happiness, more to write about, and an abundance in our membership and our lives!! Happy New Year and I’ll see you on Monday, January 17, 2022, at the Veterans Memorial Hall at 6 pm to introduce you to our first speaker of the year!!

North State Writers Conference. We are looking for NSW members to participate in a committee to explore the possibility of our club hosting a conference in our area. The committee would look into possible venues, ideas for speakers and events, propose a budget and report ideas to the board. Please contact President Jim Henson if you would be interested in assisting with this project.
Cathy Chase receives the prestigious Jack London award


Congratulations to Cathy Chase, 
who received the California Writers' Club Jack London Award of 2021 for her dedication as Vice President and President of North State Writers and to projects such as the Critique Group.
**Newsletter Editor needed. After six years, our current Editor has decided to step down from her role and a new editor is needed. She will provide training if desired. This is your chance to participate on the board and advance the future of the club. We have several members who have stepped forward to provide content. Paradise Chocolate Fest! A Chocolate Extravaganza!

Saturday, May 7th, 2022 ♥ 17th Annual Paradise Chocolate Fest!
The Chocolate Fest will include "All About Books" which is an opportunity for our members to promote their work and sell their books. Each member should download the application to participate. There will also be an NSW table providing information about our club. More information will follow.

END-OF-THE-YEAR NEWS FROM THE CWC NORCAL GROUP BOARD
           
The NorCal Group is comprised of representatives from all fourteen CWC branches in the northern part of California. Together, we work through CWC issues, problems, and seek solutions for our branches as well as work to bring more opportunities for our branch members:

  • ·      In the coming year, we will once again be hosting a CWC booth at the San Francisco Writers Conference on July 21-24, 2022. https://www.sfwriters.org/2022-conference/ With this booth comes opportunities for our branch members to join us at the Conference through volunteering their time, participating on panels, and also receiving free tickets for one-day events in the Books to Screen Summit and the Poetry Summit. If you are interested in attending these one-day events, contact your branch president. If you are interested in participating or volunteering in the SFWC, please contact me: carolebumpus@gmail.com  

  • ·      The NorCal Group will also host a booth for the Bay Area Book Fest (BABF) in May 2022 in Berkeley. For those who would like to volunteer to help at our booth, you will also be given the opportunity to sell your books at our booth. Stay tuned for more details.

  • ·      After missing our biennial NorCal Leadership Conference in 2020 (due to Covid), the NorCal Group will once again be hosting the Leadership Conference this coming September 2022. Training will be offered for all leaders in executive board positions, as well as other important roles within the branches. This may be a hybrid conference, but however it is presented, it will be essential for all CWC branch leaders to take advantage of this pertinent CWC training. Put this on your calendars. Our goal is to offer all branch leaders the best tools available to help them meet the growing needs of their branches. Working together and sharing best practices strengthens all.
LITERARY REVIEW SUBMISSIONS
The submission window for 2022 is open from November 15, 2021, to January 31, 2022.

The submission window has opened for CWC’s 2022 Literary Review, our annual anthology of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry written entirely by members. Carefully read the submission guidelines before crafting your best, most polished work, and make sure to get it to the editorial team no later than the deadline.
