Homeowner Info Sessions - March
RMLD is holding multiple free information sessions for residential customers at area libraries this month. Topics include an overview of the home electrical service configuration, available rebates, programs such as Solar Choice and Shred the Peak, available online resources, no-cost home energy assessments, energy efficiency tips, and more.

These info sessions are a great opportunity for both new and experienced homeowners to learn about their electrical service and RMLD programs. RMLD customers who rent are also welcome!

Light refreshments will be served, and each attendee will receive a complimentary LED light bulb.

Local Elementary School Students Honored Following Annual Art Contest
In February, RMLD honored 33 fourth-grade students from eleven local elementary schools for their winning entries into RMLD’s annual art contest.

Students were asked to design a poster demonstrating their knowledge in the areas of electricity, electrical safety, and energy conservation during peak periods, which is also referred to as “shredding the peak.” A first, second, and third place winner was selected from each participating school based on the artwork and message. Each winning student was awarded a Barnes and Noble gift card, and each participating school was awarded a gift certificate for art supplies.

RMLD would like to thank the teachers and faculty at participating schools for their continued partnership in this important educational initiative.

RMLD is turning 125!
Reading Municipal Light Department was founded on May 21, 1894 via Special Town Meeting Voters in Reading. Lynnfield Center, North Reading, and Wilmington joined RMLD in 1909, 1910, and 1911, respectively.

For 125 years, RMLD has maintained its commitment to providing safe and reliable electric service at a competitive price. We also believe in giving back to the local community through education and participation.

Be on the lookout for more on RMLD's milestone anniversary in the coming months.
Shred the Peak Now Includes Monthly Peaks
Peak electricity is expensive, affecting power supply costs and customer bills. RMLD's Shred the Peak program, launched in 2016, is aimed at reducing RMLD's electricity usage during peaks to control these costs and keep rates affordable. Customers who wish to participate sign up to receive alerts when a peak is predicted, and take simple steps to conserve during the predicted peak. Participation is voluntary.

Historically, the program focused on reducing usage during the annual peak, which typically occurs on a hot weekday afternoon in the summer. This year, RMLD expanded the program to include monthly peaks.

Over 2,000 customers currently receive Shred the Peak alerts via email. These alerts are also posted on RMLD's website and Twitter feed , and on the local community TV stations.
Program Spotlight: No-Cost Home Energy Assessment
RMLD offers no-cost home energy assessments to residential customers who are interested in implementing energy efficiency and conservation measures. The assessment consists of an evaluation of the home to identify efficiency measures that will help to conserve energy and lower your electric bill. Information about the various residential rebate programs is also provided.

To request a Home Energy Assessment, please contact RMLD's provider, Energy New England, at 888-772-4242.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are a served by a gas utility that is a Mass Save member (such as National Grid), we recommend that you obtain a home energy assessment through Mass Save because it will evaluate items in your home that are specific to your heating type. Visit Mass Save's website to schedule .
