VOC Behavioral Health Manager Receives Written Exposure Therapy (WET) for PTSD Certification
According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, "the treatments that work best for PTSD are trauma-focused talk therapies. Trauma-focused therapy helps [veterans] work through the trauma and what it means to [them]."
Another component of this is called Written Exposure Therapy (WET) for PTSD. This is an individual therapy in which veterans write about their trauma and the feelings they have about it based on specific writing directions.
Mark McCloskey, VOC's Behavioral Health Manager, recently earned his certification in Written Exposure Therapy (WET) for PTSD.
"The discomfort that comes with talking about trauma can be too much for some veterans," Mark McCloskey said. "Giving them the option to write out their experiences can help them process it in a healthy way and teach them that they can tolerate the negative feelings that come up. Over time, physical responses to the memories will decrease, too. Having this certification is another resource in our toolkit for veterans experiencing PTSD."
