THE RALLY ROUNDUP

Welcome to The Rally Roundup, the first edition of the US Squash Women and Girls Newsletter! This newsletter is for you! We would like to hear from you, give us your feedback.

A Message from US Squash Women’s Committee Chair, Karen Arango

Greetings Women Squash Players!

As we start a new squash season, I want to share updates from the Women’s Committee and our initiatives.

First, I am honored to chair the Women’s Committee and extend a big Thank You to Jen Gabler and AJ Copeland for Co-Chairing the Women’s Committee for nearly 10 years! Thank you for all you have done to grow the women’s game!

The Women’s Committee has been busy this summer!

We renewed our mission, which is to extend US Squash’s outreach, with the purpose to grow, promote, and increase women’s participation in the game of squash across the United States at every level, every age, and from every background.

We formed a charter and organizational structure that includes City Ambassadors who are the liaisons between the local community and the Women’s Committee, a Communications Committee to keep you all informed through newsletters and social media, a College Transition Committee to help integrate newly graduated college squash players into their new cities, and a Journey Lines Committee focused on understanding what women want and need from squash at each of the phases of their lives.

We are supporting local communities in organizing Women’s Squash Week (Sept 18-24), planning for Howe Cup (Nov 10-12) in Philadelphia and working to form a renewed US Women’s Individuals Championships (April 12-14) in Philadelphia. Stay tuned for details regarding the Individual Championships.

We will be holding a general meeting for all women squash players on September 28 at 7pm ET to talk more about what we are doing and hear from you. RSVP and we will send you an invite. If you are interested in getting involved in the Women’s Committee, please reach out to me at [email protected].

Enjoy this first newsletter and please provide your feedback.

2023 Howe Cup Update

The Howe Cup is the largest squash event for women in the US. The Howe Cup is the National Team Championships where teams of 5 women represent their cities to compete against like-skilled teams from other cities across the US and Canada.

The weekend is filled with competition and camaraderie. Women come together to spend a weekend supporting each other, meeting new friends, and reuniting old friendships through competition on the court and the many social events held throughout the weekend.

This year’s Howe Cup will take place at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia, the weekend of November 10-12, 2023.

You can find details about the weekend, and hotel information and can register via Club Locker.

Here is some key information:

Register early (by Oct 22) to receive the early bird discount:

  • Players 30 years old and under - Individual Player Fee: $150
  • Players older than 30 - Individual Player Fee: $195

Players register individually and indicate which team or city you are playing for. If you do not have a team. Do not fear. We will do player/team matching for those players without a team. If you would like to play doubles as well, let us know on the registration. You can indicate your partner as well.

If you are interested in taking the Women’s Only Start Squash Coaching Course, arrive one day early as it runs from Thursday evening November 9 through Friday morning, November 10.

Are you interested in getting more involved with US Women’s and Girls’ Squash?

City Ambassadors - Crucial to increasing the participation of women’s squash throughout the United States. City ambassadors are the liaisons between the national association to the local community and are responsible for promotion and participation of events in their local community, communicating what is happening at the national level to their local community, and providing feedback from their community to the committee for what is working, what is not, and providing suggestions for improvement.

If you’re interested in becoming more involved, please let us know by filling out this form. A member of the Committee will reach out to chat with you about your areas of interest and available opportunities.
