15 Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! | | |
In this past week’s sermon, we discussed how Christian joy is different from happiness that depends on circumstances.
Joy is a deep assurance that God is present and active in our lives even in seasons of grief, uncertainty, and struggle. Drawing from John Wesley and Steve Harper, we reflected on how joy grows out of communion with God and becomes a source of courage, strength, and stability for discipleship. The joy of the Lord is not denial of pain, but confidence that nothing can separate us from the love and grace of God.
One spiritual practice that can help us cultivate this kind of joy is the Examen, a daily prayer practice centered on noticing God’s presence throughout the day. In the Examen, we take time to reflect on moments of gratitude, where we felt close to God, where we struggled, and where we may have resisted God’s grace. Rather than focusing on guilt or perfection, the practice helps us become more aware of how God has been present with us all along. Over time, the Examen deepens our communion with God and strengthens the joyful assurance that God’s grace is still at work in our lives.

Phoenix Parking, the company that oversees parking validation and citations in our parking deck, has switched from Obeeo to GetMyParking. This switch will not impose a significant impact on your parking experience. If you're vehicle was registered when Phoenix Parking worked with Obeeo, it will still be registered when they switch to GetMyParking.
Registered vehicle owners will get an email from GetMyParking sometime this week that looks identical to the one in the photo above. Owners should follow the instructions in the email to enjoy the best parking experience.
We'll follow up with more information next week!

Thank you to everyone who submitted an RSVP on Facebook. A high RSVP count sends our event to the top of the list, allowing more people to see it which enables us to share this historic performance with more people!
This collaborative concert promises a vibrant and uplifting musical offering that both celebrates the beauty of sacred choral music and the shared ministry of Saint Mark and Saint James United Methodist Churches.
We encourage you to share the Facebook event with a friend and show up for the presentation of Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria, along with additional choral anthems, presented with full orchestral accompaniment.
It's an event you don't want to miss!
