21 From that time on, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and undergo great suffering at the hands of the elders and chief priests and scribes and be killed and on the third day be raised. 22 And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “God forbid it, Lord! This must never happen to you.” 23 But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance[a] to me, for you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things.” 24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If any wish to come after me, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 25 For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give in return for their life? 27 “For the Son of Man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay everyone for what has been done. 28 Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

Good morning, we would like to take a moment to thank you for all that you do to make Saint Mark a church with a legacy of loving, serving, and accepting people just as they are. Your gifts of time and resources are what makes ministry happen. Thanks!

Here's what we've got going on in the life of the church.

THE LEGACY CAMPAIGN

Our Legacy Campaign—a focused $150,000 campaign has been launched to replace our Sanctuary Sound System, Secure our Church Campus with dependable key-card access, and restore our Fifth Street Historic Red Doors.

This is not simply about equipment, locks, or wood. It is about ministry: making sure every word, prayer, and song can be heard; making our active campus safer and easier to manage; and preserving the doors that have welcomed generations with the promise, “Welcome Home.”

Between now and the last Sunday in October, we will tell the story of each need and invite every household to take part. We ask you to pray, consider a gift above your regular giving, and make your commitment by Sunday, October 4. The campaign will close on Sunday, October 25, before our November stewardship emphasis begins. You may give once or fulfill your commitment over three months.

Together, we will preserve our legacy, protect our church home, and prepare our ministry for generations to come. Thank you for helping Saint Mark continue to say, “Welcome Home.”

There will only be one worship service on September 6th. It will be at 10:00 AM in the Sanctuary.

Tell everyone!

Wade Hall Renovations

This Thursday and Friday, the church office and Wade Hall will unavailable to the public from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM due to renovations. Both spaces are getting a fresh coat of paint, as well as other upgrades. The photos above reflect some of the modifications that are in progress now!

Supporting Wellroot Family Services

As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are called not only to worship together, but to put our faith into action by caring for our neighbors. This September, Saint Mark is partnering with Wellroot Family Services, a United Methodist Connectional Ministry to support the children, youth, and families they serve.

Beginning this Sunday, we invite you to bring individually packaged snack items to church as we prepare for Mission Sunday. Collection locations will be announced and clearly marked around the church.

Suggested donations include:

  • Individually packaged crackers
  • Granola or breakfast bars
  • Fruit snacks
  • Applesauce or fruit cups
  • Pretzels
  • Individual packages of cookies
  • Shelf-stable pudding cups
  • Individual packages of nuts or trail mix
  • Juice boxes or other small, shelf-stable drinks

Then, on Sunday, September 20, Mission Sunday, we’ll come together between and after worship services to assemble the donated items into snack bags for Wellroot.

This is a simple way for everyone at Saint Mark to participate: bring what you can, and help us pack what we collect. Each bag will be a tangible expression of care for our neighbors and a reminder that our discipleship extends beyond the walls of the church.

As part of our 150th Anniversary Celebration, journey with us through the stories behind Saint Mark’s stained glass windows.

Each week, we’ll feature a different window, exploring its biblical story, symbolism, and the faithful people whose generosity helped shape Saint Mark’s legacy. Narrated by members of our congregation, these short videos are available on YouTube, our social media channels, and in ReMarks each week.

This week’s featured window: Lilies of the Field

The 2026 Pride Parade

On October 11th, we will march for the inclusion, equality, and acceptance that is found in God’s grace and love. Language may have changed in the UMC Book of Discipline, but you don’t have to spend long watching the news to know that our Christ-led, collective voice is as important now as ever.

Here are some resources to help you prepare:

  • Google Sign-Up page. Those signing up will get info blasts the morning of with logistical details, invited to the next meeting, and a sign representing your church for the march.
  • Facebook event. Logistical information about the morning of the parade will be posted here.

Once we are told our parade staging location, we will circulate a map with MARTA stations, the parade route, and more.

There will also be a Float Build and Sign Making event on Saturday, Oct 10, from 9:00 am-4:00pm (location to be announced). Your help would be greatly appreciated!

If you want to attend the parade but don't want to march for any reason, you're invited to hangout on our front lawn and watch.

This year's Pride Parade will be as inspirational and colorful as ever. Let's show up, and show out!
