But this was very displeasing to Jonah, and he became angry. 2 He prayed to the Lord and said, “O Lord! Is not this what I said while I was still in my own country? That is why I fled to Tarshish at the beginning, for I knew that you are a gracious and merciful God, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from punishment. 3 And now, O Lord, please take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live.” 4 And the Lord said, “Is it right for you to be angry?” 5 Then Jonah went out of the city and sat down east of the city and made a booth for himself there. He sat under it in the shade, waiting to see what would become of the city.
6 The Lord God appointed a bush and made it come up over Jonah, to give shade over his head, to save him from his discomfort, so Jonah was very happy about the bush. 7 But when dawn came up the next day, God appointed a worm that attacked the bush, so that it withered. 8 When the sun rose, God prepared a sultry east wind, and the sun beat down on the head of Jonah so that he was faint and asked that he might die. He said, “It is better for me to die than to live.”
Jonah Is Reproved
9 But God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the bush?” And he said, “Yes, angry enough to die.” 10 Then the Lord said, “You are concerned about the bush, for which you did not labor and which you did not grow; it came into being in a night and perished in a night.
| | It's officially Spring. The time when the bees return, the flowers bloom, and the days get longer. We're only 4 days in, but we have a good feeling about this one. May sunny days and long walks in the park abound. | | Holy Week provides us the opportunity to journey with Jesus as he lives through his final days. It's an intense time of joy, betrayal and mourning, that leads to the most glorious day when we rejoice in Christ’s Resurrection on Easter! This Holy Week, we are offering the opportunity for you to walk and pray alongside Jesus using a Prayer Labyrinth. The Prayer Labyrinth will be set up in the Gymnasium on the Third Floor of the Education Building from March 29 - April 4. | | Opportunities for Service in Worship | | Are you looking for opportunities to fulfill the Methodist vow to fully participate in the ministries of the church by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness? The Worship Team and Altar Guild would love to hear from you. Members of these teams serve, prepare and provide support for Saint Mark as ushers, greeters, acolytes, crucifers, and Communion servers, and also help with other special services and events. If you are interested in exploring how you can help, please contact Russell McKinney, Worship Chair, or the Church office. No experience is necessary, training for tasks will be provided, and the time commitment is flexible. This is an excellent way to feel more engaged with the life and ministries of Saint Mark. If you can help, please let us know and we will contact you! | | This is the last week to order | |
The deadline to place Easter lily orders is April 1st. You can submit a paper order form to the church office, or you can complete your purchase request on our website.
