In an article in appearing The News & Observer on March 9, 2015, the City of Raleigh indicated that their construction inspections department is back to its pre-recession inspections level. In 2005, the department performed 125,000 inspections compared to the 61,800 conducted in 2008. Department officials say they need enough inspectors to keep things running smoothly and have asked the City to fund 11 full-time positions.
