Community Grant Award Celebration!
You won't want to miss our Community Grant Awards celebration on Monday, June 24 at 5PM.
This is an opportunity for you to hear from our five Community Grant winners. The agencies that win work hard to achieve this grant award. You will hear about their winning project. You will also have an opportunity to learn more about each agency as they are invited to bring materials to educate us about all of their programs.
The Community Grant committee will tell you about the pilot project they incorporated into the selection of the winning grants. In an effort to reduce bias they redacted the names and identifying information (as much as possible) from the grant proposals.
Continuing the same theme, you will also hear from our special speaker and Impact 100 RC member, Dr. Louise Packard. She is a licensed psychologist who has directed her interest to the very important area of group bias. This is a pertinent issue for all of us who participate in the granting process. Dr. Packard will talk about the pitfalls we can try to avoid when we make important grant- making decisions.
I hope to see you all on Monday, June 24.

Celebrate Our Community Grant Winners on June 24
Meet Our 2019 Community Grantees!
LIME FOUNDATION
The LIME Foundation's grant will be used for the NextGen Trades Academy program that annually serves up to 85 disadvantaged youth, ages 16-24, by providing introductory construction training, career preparedness skills and employment opportunities in Sonoma County. The year-round NextGen Trades Academy program ranges from 5 to 10 weeks per training cycle and enables students to explore over 14 vocational trades combined with workshops in financial literacy, personal finance, resume writing, mock interviews, and public speaking.
PDI SURGERY CENTER
 |
|
 |
Kids practice their brushing techniques at PDI |
PDI Surgery Center's mission is to serve low-income Northern California children
who need
safe sedation for treatment of severe tooth decay, and reduce dental decay, the nation's number one preventable childhood disease, through prevention education, support in accessing health insurance and a permanent dental home, and promotion of oral health throughout Northern California. The cost of dental and medical supplies is $410,570 annually or $186.62 per patient. Impact 100 RC's grant will allow PDI to treat approximately 53 of the 2,200 children we serve annually.
THE LIVING ROOM
The Living Room serves homeless women and children, many of whom have health issues and no regular access to bathrooms. When they come onto our site there are almost always lines at all of our restrooms. We frequently have women who wet themselves, or worse, while they are waiting in line. This has caused a lot of tears of embarrassment, and in some cases triggered additional issues. A contractor has helped us come up with the modification to one of our current bathrooms so that we can serve more women. Impact 100 RC's grant will cover the materials, labor, and permits.
RUSSIAN RIVERKEEPER
 |
|
 |
Protecting our beautiful rivers |
Impact 100 RC's grant is the final portion of funding needed for Russian Riverkeeper to purchase a used 34-ton diesel truck for Clean River Alliance staff to haul trash from the river and other sites to disposal. To-date, we have used Director Chris Brokate's personal truck that has been overloaded numerous times and resulted in constant repairs. The new truck will be outfitted for our trash hauling needs, and will allow us to haul more per load and result in much more time spent collecting trash and should serve our needs for at least the next ten years.
WOMEN'S RECOVERY SERVICES
Women's Recovery Services is addressing the opioid crisis by supporting our communities' vulnerable young women and children. Children of addicted mothers are neglected and mostly unrecognized by societal systems. WRS catches hold of those children and turns their lives around by bringing mothers into treatment. Our Children's Program completely changes health and education outcomes of these most challenged children by bringing the mother into the solution and transforming their lives at this highest leverage point. WRS programs empower families to become economically stable.
Hear From our 2018 Winners:
Our 2018 Community Grant winners will also give short presentations describing the impact of their projects implemented over the last year:

Representatives from all 10 grantee organizations with have informative table displays with takeaway materials. See you on June 24th!

Making an Impact...Short AND Long Term
An update from our first Impact Grant Winner, VOICES
This June Sarah graduated with her AA degree. She plans to transfer to Sacramento State to study Audiology and one day support others to hear more clearly the world around them. Ofelia graduated from the JC with her Correctional Officer Certificate and is now qualified to work in our local justice system. Both young women are former foster youth and clients of VOICES, but more importantly, and forever, both are now college graduates. A dream that never seemed possible to either.

VOICES Educational Support Team |
Too often, unfortunately,
funders
don't receive updates on their investments once the grant is over. This means that as donors we are frequently unaware of what a difference our generosit
y has
made long term to an organization or program. VOICES is a case in point. Impact
100 RC awarded its first $100,000 grant to VOICES, making it possible for them to fund a youth education navigator to support former foster youth seeking post-secondary education and shatter the negative outcomes often experienced by foster youth in the education system. On average, only 45% of foster youth will graduate from high school as compared to 79% of their peers; only 23% of foster youth will complete community college and only 3% of foster youth in California will attend a four-year university.
VOICES was able to demonstrate successfully during the course of its Impact 100 RC grant the validity of its approach. As a result, the Youth Education Navigator program continues to grow and thrive in our community. It now sustains itself through ongoing funding provided by Sonoma County Child Welfare and the Sonoma County Office of Education. VOICES now has two Education Navigators supporting over 300 youth each year to obtain their educational goals. The majority of youth that become involved in the program stick with it through their college graduation and this year there are twice as many foster youth graduating from Santa Rosa Junior College as have in past years!

's and Ofelia's stories are only two of the hundreds of youth that are realizing succe

s as the
y go to school to secure a better future for themselves and their children. As Amber Twitc
hell, Associate Director of On the Move (parent organization of VOICES), said in a recent interview, "when accepting the $100,000 gift from Impact 100 RC, VOICES made a promise to use the money to create lasting change for our community. As we move through another graduation season, and I see dozens of youth holding their diplomas and smiling for their graduation photo, I feel confident that we kept our promise and that these young people are now on a path to change the world. Thank you for believing in us."
