The Harris Centre - RBC Water Research and Outreach Fund

Do you have a research project relating to drinking water issues in Newfoundland and Labrador? Are you interested in incorporating community needs into research projects to make a difference in the lives of people in NL?
 
The Harris Centre - RBC Water Research and Outreach Fund provides up to $15,000 per project for creative, relevant, applied research on rural and remote drinking water issues in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Funding is for a maximum of a one year period.  
Researchers from all disciplines are welcomed to apply and we strongly encourage multidisciplinary and collaborative projects between faculty, staff, and students and external stakeholders.

The David Curran Award for Memorial University Undergraduate Students
Are you or do you know an undergraduate student with a passion for community development? 

This scholarship was established by the Harris Centre, Newfoundland and Labrador Regional Economic Development Association, and Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador in recognition of David Curran, a passionate advocate and tireless champion of rural Newfoundland. 

Deadline: February 17, 2017

The award recognizes one Memorial University undergraduate student who embodies that same spirit of community development innovation. 

The scholarship is valued at a portion of the income from the endowment and is awarded annually.

This year, the award is valued at over $950.

Advocates argue that more research into the possibility of a guaranteed annual income (GAI) in Newfoundland and Labrador is needed.

“Creating a guaranteed annual income for all citizens could be an innovative way to put into action the notion we don’t want people in the province to fall behind a certain standard of living," said Rob McLennan, director, employment services, Stella’s Circle.

Submit your proposal: International Small Island Cultures conference, June 2017
Islands are storied places. We want to hear your stories, your ballads, and learn about island narratives. And we want to tell you a few stories of our own.

The 13th International Small Island Cultures conference will be held in St. John’s from June 16-19, 2017 at Memorial University of Newfoundland.

The conference theme is “Stories, Ballads and Island Narratives.”
