Report Launch & Community Conversation
The Harris Centre and the Community Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador are pleased to invite you to the launch of the 2017 edition of NL's Vital Signs, a report on the quality of life in Newfoundland and Labrador.

After the presentation of the report, panel discussion and Q&A, there will be a "Community Conversation" round-table discussion to help determine priorities areas for the 2018 report.

The David Curran Award for Undergraduate Students is now accepting applications.

This scholarship was established by the Harris Centre, Newfoundland and Labrador Regional Economic Development Association, and Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador in recognition of David Curran, a passionate advocate and tireless champion of rural Newfoundland. The award recognizes one Memorial University undergraduate student who embodies that same spirit of community development innovation.

Open to all faculty, students and staff at Memorial, the Harris Centre - MMSB Waste Management Applied Research Fund provides up to $15,000 per project/per year to investigate waste management issues in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Sustainable Northern Coastal Communities initiative
The face of rural Newfoundland and Labrador is changing quickly — the population is aging and declining, creating challenges for industry and economic growth. But for many people in rural regions, accepting decline is not an option. For them, it’s just another reason to pull communities together and to work collaboratively.

That is the thinking behind a new Harris Centre-led initiative focused on community-university collaboration.

National Kudos
Harris Centre receives national recognition for leadership
We're were so honoured and thankful to receive national recognition for leadership in economic development by the Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) recently.

The President’s Award, recognizing the contributions of our own Dr. Rob Greenwood and the centre to the association and the Economic Development Profession, was presented by outgoing president, David Emerson, at EDAC’s annual conference held in Niagara Falls, Ont., last month.
