Kevin Quigley, Scholarly Director of the MacEachen Institute for Public Policy and Governance and a professor in Dalhousie's School of Public Administration,
evaluates the risk regulation regimes that monitor, interpret, and respond to failures in Canada’s critical infrastructure, and questions biases that determine who is held to account when systems fail. Dr. Quigley
specializes in public sector risk and crisis management, strategic management and critical infrastructure protection.

Community and Family Impacts of Mobility for Work
|
Extended mobility for work is widespread in Newfoundland and Labrador and in many other parts of Canada.This Memorial Presents will provide an overview of findings on different patterns of extended mobility for work and their impacts on source and host communities as well as on mobile workers and their families. The On the Move Partnership has been studying extended mobility for work in the Canadian context for six years. With a focus on community and family impacts, this event will highlight some of the key findings from this large program of research.

Are you interested in research on the Great Northern Peninsula? We're currently accepting Expressions of Interest for our exciting new Sustainable Northern Coastal Communities Applied Research Fund. Funding will support research that impacts the sustainability of the tip of the Great Northern Peninsula that falls within the following themes:
Regional Governance, Fishing and Port Industries, Tourism, and Entrepreneurship.
The fund is open to all Memorial University faculty, staff and students and provides up to $15,000 per project.

Fourth annual report on quality of life in NL released
|
What does life in Newfoundland and Labrador look like in 2017? The fourth annual Newfoundland and Labrador’s Vital Signs Report can give you a pretty good idea — on everything from financial security to well-water usage.
A shared initiative between the Community Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Harris Centre, the Vital Signs report uses quality of life indicators, expert commentaries and case studies to put a spotlight on issues and aspects of life in Newfoundland and Labrador.
This year’s edition of the report focuses on belonging and highlights how residents’ sense of belonging impacts how they live and connect in their communities.

Innovation. The word and concept has become increasingly popular recently – but what is it, really? Where do innovators come from? What does the practice of innovation look like?
In this Synergy Session, Ryan Murphy presents his award-winning Master’s research, Innovation Education. In his work he explored exactly those questions above, unearthing a set of innovation skills and synthesizing an innovation curricula. Finally, he examined how this set of skills is intentionally taught (or not!) in Newfoundland and Labrador’s public education systems, from K-12 through to post-secondary.
