As spring gives way to summer, KCADD and Kentucky’s 15 Area Development Districts are turning their attention to the 2026 legislative interim, a critical period for regional planning, economic development and the priorities that matter most to communities across the commonwealth.
The interim joint committee schedule represents one of our best opportunities to engage directly with legislators on issues ranging from infrastructure to workforce development and community resilience. Our teams are already planning to participate in committee hearings, bring local voices to Frankfort and ensure that local communities’ needs remain front and center in policy conversations. We encourage local officials and community leaders to stay engaged, and to reach out to your ADD if you want to be part of those efforts.
This month also brought exciting results at the ballot box. Congratulations to every candidate who won their primary election on May 19. Local elected office is demanding, thankless work, and those who seek it demonstrate a genuine commitment to their neighbors and their communities. We look forward to working alongside each of you.
To those who did not prevail: thank you. The willingness to put your name on the ballot, stand behind your convictions and serve your community speaks volumes about your character. Local government is stronger because of everyone who steps forward.
And to the countless appointed and volunteer leaders, board members, planning commissioners and advisory council members who serve without fanfare or recognition: you are the backbone of regional development in Kentucky. We are grateful for your partnership.
