An Update From Romi Sebald

Frederic Remington Art Museum Curator

What's new in Curatorial?

It has been a busy and exciting month in the Curatorial Department! I've been cataloguing and acknowledging gifts from various donors over the past year who have generously given us objects and ephemera to add to the legacies of Frederic Remington and Sally James Farnham here at the Museum. At the same time, I have also been researching for our America 250 exhibit which will illustrate Remington's contribution to the understanding of our rich national history.

In our six weeks of closure, I have been preparing for our exhibition schedule and archivally cleaning objects and works of art on exhibit. We temporarily removed objects to refresh spaces such as the Winter, Parish and Torrey galleries. The Museum officially reopened this past weekend with a fantastic turnout for the College Exhibition’s opening, and we couldn’t be more thrilled! If you haven’t seen it yet, be sure to visit before the exhibition closes on March 7th.

We also have an exciting lineup of exhibitions on the horizon! Mark your calendars for:

  • The Elementary Art Show on March 15th
  • The Middle and High School Juried Art Show, opening on April 12th
  • The Member’s Juried Art Exhibition, opening on May 16th.
  • Plus, stay tuned for more details about the highly anticipated John Morrow Retrospective on July 26th!

As we continue our work to preserve Frederic Remington’s legacy and bring engaging exhibitions and events to our community, we rely on the generosity of supporters like you. Consider making a donation or becoming a Museum member to help us care for Remington’s works, maintain our historic spaces, and create meaningful art experiences for generations to come. Members receive exclusive benefits, including free admission, special event invitations, and discounts in the Museum Shop. Every contribution makes a difference!

DIGITAL BRONZE REPRODUCTION

The Rattlesnake, Casting No.14

The most accurate reproduction of Remington’s sculptures yet.

Using 3D laser scanners on Remington’s original cast of The Rattlesnake No. 14 combined with the traditional lost-wax casting process, we have managed to capture the most intricate details of this classic piece of American art. The original Casting No. 14, displayed in the Oval Office during the Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations,

is owned by Dr. Harrison G. Monk and on loan to the Museum.

And now you can have one too.

The Cowboy Sculpture Reproduction

Drawing inspiration from the untamed beauty and spirited energy of the Old West, the The Cowboy statue captures a determined rider and his steadfast horse facing the challenges of the frontier. Every element, from the textured fabric of the cowboy’s worn attire to the powerful contours of the horse, is crafted with stunning realism. This piece embodies the essence of adventure, resilience, and the unyielding spirit of the American West
