An Update From Jamie

Membership and Operations Manager

What's new in Membership & Operations?

As the Membership and Operations Manager, I work to identify, prioritize, and resolve any issues that arise within our three buildings: the Parish Mansion, the administration building, and the Eva Caten Remington Education Center. I coordinate with contractors, architects, and inspectors to plan and oversee projects, ensuring each step is completed efficiently. Additionally, I manage logistics for events with the support of our staff and volunteers.

On the Museum front end, I provide support and training to our part-time staff, working closely with our Museum Experience and Education Manager, Julie Pratt, to keep them informed about new policies and procedures. We ensure the front-end team has the necessary resources to educate visitors and present accurate information. I also manage gift shop orders, maintain our POS system, and quickly address any issues that arise.

In collaboration with our Curator, Romi Sebald, I help ensure that our permanent collection is properly stored and maintained according to AAM accreditation standards. I also work closely with Deb Ormasen, our Financial Manager, to ensure that all projects and collection needs stay within budget or, when necessary, coordinate with our Executive Director, Maggie McKenna, to submit quotes for grant applications.

On the membership side, I partner with our Communications Manager, Ashley Swanson, to develop renewal reminders, thank-you letters, brochures, and other materials. I strive to keep our members informed about their benefits and coordinate each step of our yearly appeals and bulk mailings for donations and museum events.

I come to work each day prepared to face unexpected challenges and revisit ongoing ones. One of the biggest difficulties is navigating the complexities of a not-for-profit organization, particularly the many steps required to achieve certain goals.

I aim to deepen my knowledge and understanding of project management within the constraints and guidelines of a not-for-profit organization.  I plan to observe and learn from the outside resources we utilize, gaining the skills to repair, replace, and operate various systems myself. This will enable me to address facility needs independently, ultimately saving time and money for the organization in the future.

I am certain that my first year here has contributed to bringing stability to our organization. Each day, I grow more confident in my role and have discovered strengths within myself that I never knew existed. In the past, I preferred to stay under the radar, but this position has pushed me to step up and face challenges head-on. I’ve learned that it’s okay not to have all the answers immediately—to listen, reflect, and grow from each experience.

All of these efforts are made possible through the dedication of our Frederic Remington Team, and I look forward to continuing to support and build our future together.

I’m currently planning and overseeing several exciting projects, including:

  • Gift Shop window replacement
  • Brick repairs
  • Shutter replacement
  • Handicap ramp upgrades to meet ADA compliance
  • New exhibit space
  • Exhibit lighting upgrades
  • Chair lift installation
  • Fuse box replacement

While much of this work happens behind the scenes, it all plays a vital role in creating a Museum experience that is welcoming, safe, and enjoyable. Of course, none of it would be possible without the generosity of our members and donors. Whether you’ve renewed your membership, made a donation, or simply visited the Museum, your support ensures that we can continue preserving Frederic Remington’s legacy while caring for the historic spaces that house his work.

If you haven’t yet renewed your membership or if you are considering making a gift, now is the perfect time. Your contributions help us maintain our buildings, fund essential repairs, and provide resources for our staff to share Remington’s art and history with visitors from near and far.

The Rattlesnake, Casting No.14

The most accurate reproduction of Remington’s sculptures yet.

Using 3D laser scanners on Remington’s original cast of The Rattlesnake No. 14 combined with the traditional lost-wax casting process, we have managed to capture the most intricate details of this classic piece of American art. The original Casting No. 14, displayed in the Oval Office during the Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations,
