The Restorative Classroom

Overview: The Restorative Classroom will provide a brief overview of Restorative Justice concepts and dig deeper into applications in the classroom. The training will also provide practical tools that educators and other school staff can use to turn classroom discipline from a punitive experience to a positive learning opportunity.

Presenter: This training is presented by Melissa McClain, a graduate of Kent State University and the community education program coordinator at Akron Children’s Hospital. She is responsible for a social and emotional learning curriculum that includes K-12 classroom education as well as psychological trauma education for educators and other professionals who work in a school environment. Since 2006, Melissa has educated over 68,000 students, school staff and community members. She has worked with over 150 Ohio school buildings and community organizations that work with youth and has also been lucky to travel to speak for state and national audiences on teen dating, emotional literacy, bullying, and psychological trauma.

Target Audience: District Administrators, Teachers, School Psychologists, and School Counselors

Dates: February 28, 2019

Time: Registration begins at 8:30 AM. Training starts at 9:00 AM and will end by 3:00 PM.

Cost: $25 for ESC of Lake Erie West member districts. $55 for nonmember districts.   Fee includes lunch and instructional materials. Registration is not complete until fees are paid.
