A Message from the Rev. Laura Palmer

August 22nd, 2025

Dear Members & Friends of the Church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields,

I’m writing to share the news that I have accepted a call to become the Interim Rector at St. Christopher’s Church in Gladwyne. My last Sunday among you will be on September 21st and I’ll begin at St. Christopher’s on October 1st.

While this is a change that was coming, its arrival is momentous. St. Martin’s – which means each and every one of you—has blessed me beyond measure since I first walked through its red doors in 2012. You are the church that has sustained me and ordained me in the name of Jesus Christ and have given me far more than I could have ever given you. My gratitude is boundless.

As our beloved sexton James Kent says at least once a day, “We work together.” It’s true. We do. Lorie, Noor, and James, are a trinity of goodness and dedication. Connie, Kate, and Sean, are “volunteers” who energize and serve this parish unceasingly.

Mary and Luke, my clergy colleagues – as well as Carol Duncan until her retirement— have inspired me with the depth of their faith and passion for their ministries. Tyrone’s leadership as Director of Music and Arts routinely makes excellence look easy.

St. Martin’s vestry remains superb and Barbara Thomson and Martha Crowell, who supported me as rector’s wardens, were magnificent.

This is the team that served not only me but will continue to serve you with love, faith, and joy after my departure in the name of Christ and chart St. Martin’s course into a new and vibrant future.

Blessings and peace,

Laura+
