Welcome The Rev. Stan Purdum

This Sunday we welcome to worship guest preacher, the Rev. Stan Purdum. After 45 years in the United Methodist ministry, Stan retired in June 2011. He served the last 14 years of his ministry as pastor of Centenary UMC near Canton, Ohio, while also working as a writer and editor, which he continues to do. Last year, he served a six-month interim as a pastor at Bishop Janes UMC in Basking Ridge, NJ.
Stan is the author of the books He Walked in Galilee (about the ministry of Jesus), New Mercies I See (short stories about God’s grace), a commentary on Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther (part of the Immersion study series from Abingdon Press), and the seasonal study book Travel the Highways of Advent . He is also a long-distance bicyclist and has authored four books about bicycling. Stan has been published in religious and secular journals, has written numerous sermons for lectionary volumes and preaching journals, and writes adult Sunday school curriculum.
Stan and his wife, Jeanine, have three grown children. They moved to New Jersey three years ago to be near their oldest son and daughter-in-law and help care for their grandchildren. Stan and Jeanine make their home in South Bound Brook, New Jersey.

In music this Sunday, come and listen to Music Director, Jim Goldsworthy, play pieces by Frédéric Chopin featuring a special piano solo-- Nocturne in g minor, Op. 15, No. 3.  Hope to see you at our 10:15AM worship service!
