MEET THE TEAM: KELSEY HOR
| |
We are excited to introduce Kelsey Hordal, our great Youth Program Coordinator for Region 5. 💙
Kelsey joined our team November 7, 2022, making her the newest addition to the Métis Region 5 office. Thanks to her passion, you may have recently noticed we have had many events and monthly cultural enrichment programs for our Region's youth. The Métis Nation of Alberta recognizes our youth demographic as those between the ages twelve to twenty-nine. She looks forward to getting to know the youth in the area while also reconnecting to her own culture.
| |
|
When Kelsey isn’t working, she enjoys creating delicious new recipes, crocheting blankets, and exploring the great outdoors with her trusty side-kick and border collie, Vince. She is also an artist and loves to experiment with new art mediums. We are so lucky to have her on our team and can’t wait to see what other activities she has for our youth! | |
Our team has created an all-new Facebook account that will always showcase our current programs, services, contests, giveaways, and events. Be sure to follow our new page by clicking here.
Be sure to invite your friends and family too!

MEET THE TEAM: WALTER ANDREE
| |
|
We are delighted to introduce Walter Andreef, our brilliant Consultant Coordinator for Region 5.💙
On June 4th, 2018, Walter joined our team as the Metis Nation of Alberta's Consultant Coordinator but was previously a science consultant for Region 5 since 2011! So this is not his first rodeo with our team. He meets with Elders and community members as well as goes out into the bush to monitor our caribou, forestry, and Oil and Gas facilities in our region. He has knowledge and experience in Indigenous land use assessments, the best practices for Indigenous participation, collaboration, and partnership in environmentalimpact assessments.
| |
Walter has a science degree in Environmental Geology and has worked with both Alberta and British Columbia Indigenous communities over the past twenty years. He has expertise in Indigenous Métis Rights and their intersection with major projects. Walter currently sits as a member of the National Indigenous Circle of Experts and on our Otipemisiwak Métis Government's Self-Government Transition Committee. In December 2022, Walter spoke at an international forum called COP-15 in Montreal on the Biodiversity of Caribou. He has been an active member of the National Boreal Caribou Knowledge Consortium’s Indigenous Knowledge Circle since 2018.
When Walter has some free time, he loves hiking and gathering mushrooms and fungi. He transforms into a photographer when he’s exploring the forest. Walter also enjoys swimming and spending time on the beach at the lake, hunting, exercising, and running, while saving the planet and Caribou.
