MEET THE TEAM: KRISSY

Introducing Krissy Dana, our talented and enthusiastic Summer Student at Métis Region 5! 💫

Krissy joined our team on July 4, 2023, and has been making a positive impact ever since. As a Summer Student, her role is to lend a helping hand in the office and assist with various tasks. From answering phones and photocopying to filing, organizing, and more, Krissy ensures the smooth operation of our office and supports our community initiatives.

When asked about her favorite part of the role, Krissy expressed her deep enjoyment of gardening outdoors.

Working at the Community Garden has allowed her to connect with nature and cultivate her passion for plants. In addition, she has had the opportunity to develop a close bond with Susan, the Vice President of Metis Local #19 in Slave Lake, which has further enriched her experience.

Outside of work, Krissy is a dedicated dancer, participating in various dance styles as a competitive dancer. Her love for movement and expression shines through her performances. She also cherishes quality time with her beloved dog Rocky, a boxer who brings joy and companionship to her life. Krissy values spending time with friends, exploring the beach, and making the most of her free time.

In her grade 12 year, Krissy has found a renewed sense of connection to her Métis heritage, culture, and the available programs. Her time with Métis Region 5 has provided her with opportunities for growth, learning, and building meaningful relationships within the community.

We are thrilled to have Krissy as part of our team, and her dedication and passion contribute greatly to our shared goals. Her positive energy and commitment to her work are truly inspiring.

Please join us in welcoming Krissy Dana, our talented Summer Student, and stay tuned for more updates on her contributions to our community!

YOUTH CULTURE CAMP

July 24-28, 2023

Last month, we had an absolute blast at our Métis Youth Camp! 🏕️💫 The camp was filled with excitement, laughter, and a whole lot of learning as we came together to celebrate our Métis heritage and culture.

Our talented youth had the incredible opportunity to delve into the art of drum-making, guided by skilled artisans who shared their expertise and traditions. 🥁 The rhythmic beats echoed through the campsite, symbolizing the heartbeat of our vibrant Métis community.

TRAPPER JOURNEY PHOTOS

July 27, 2023

The Métis Trapper took Walter to walk his ancestral trapline and explore the old home location of his multigenerational family.

Their quest was to understand the direct impacts of human activity and an oil pipeline to the traplines. This exploration shed light on the environmental changes and challenges faced by the trapper's traditional trapping practices.
