MEET THE TEAM: BARBARA
We are proud to introduce Barbara Emmrich, our amazing Outreach Supports Worker 💙
Previously an LPN in Manitoba, Barbara first joined the Region 5 team on November 30, 2021, as the Covid-19 Mental Health Supports Coordinator. Once that role was completed in March of 2022, Barbara's role evolved into a permanent position on the team as our Outreach Supports Worker and we are thankful to have her!
| |
|
In her role, Barbara works hard to find community support and assistance programs for our Region 5 Métis Citizens. She brings awareness of programs and assistance that is available and how to access them to better the health of our region.
Barbara can also be found assisting in many of our Region 5 programs and services in various ways. She is often helping coordinate events with our Executive Director Brenda, hands-on with our citizens at our events, promoting MNA workshops, and developing Region 5 wellness and cultural programs and teachings such as the Indigenous Childbirth Workshop coming up this month. Barbara can also be found working with our citizens one-on-one helping them fill out MNA application forms, applying for programs, harvesting applications, and more.
| |
|
Barbara was recently featured in the Lakeside Leader which you can Read Here.
When asked what her favorite part of her role on the Region 5 team is, Barbara said "Connecting with and getting to know the citizens in our region, building relationships, traveling, and meeting other Métis." When not at work, Barbara spends her family time largely with her family. She also enjoys learning more about her Métis culture, and is even currently starting to learn Cree! Be sure to say "Hi" next time you see her 👋🏽

MEETING WITH THE C.E.R.
February 06, 2023

A team of our Métis Region 5 Local Leaders met with the Canadian Energy Regulator (CER) in Edmonton on February 07, 2023, to discuss Indigenous inclusion with respect to the regulations. Specifically, they discussed how the Nova Gas Transmission (NGTL) Pipeline system in Alberta that is operated by TC Energy could potentially impact our Section 35 rights. Each of our leaders spoke to the CER as part of the panel and provided information to the Government of Canada's Regulatory staff.
