The Road Ahead

The Week of 1st Aug for Rockland Road Runners

Albertus Magnus Track

Tuesday Track at 7:00 PM

Track continues at Albertus Magnus this week. Register here if you didn't already do so this year so that we can contact you if there are changes.

Coach Ray is back in charge this week, tanned and rested. The workout is:

1.5 mile warm up jog

  • 800 m
  • 300 m recovery
  • 400 m
  • 300 m recovery

Repeat 4 x

1 mile cool down

Arrive 20 minutes early to get in your warm-up before drills and speed-work begin at 7:00. The Club will provide water. The only accessible bathrooms are PortaJohns, so be warned!

Wednesday BRUN at 7:30 PM

Cooler evenings and glorious sunsets make the BRUN especially appealing at this time of year.

We meet at the Gazebo by the old Village Hall in South Nyack (282 S. Broadway) for a 7:30 PM start.

It's a total distance of 7 miles if you go all the way across. But you can turn back any time. Everyone is welcome, no matter your pace, and so far we've not left anyone on the bridge when they lock the gates. Sign up here, if you didn't already do so. It's free, and you can bring your friends.

Registration Open for Fall Races

  • Registration is now open for the Rockland Road Runners 5 Mile Turkey Trot. This is our biggest race. It's always an amazing atmosphere and the proceeds benefit the Marisa Fund for children with pediatric cancer. Sign up this month and get the early bird pricing in addition to your club discount.
  • Registration is going fast for the South Nyack 7.8 Miler. The combination of the throwback distance and the chance to run across the bridge is a powerful draw.  Only 200 slots left of our allowed 500 in-person participants.
  • If you are looking for an October race to fill out your Fall racing schedule, we can recommend the Sleepy Hollow Halloween 10K, put on by our friends across the water - Rivertown Runners. For a shorter distance, there's a 5K associated with Nyack Hospital's Rides and Strides event in October.

Left In The Dust

Award

Congratulations, Gail

Someone who might well leave you in the dust is our fleet-footed membership chair and certified coach, Gail Cirlin-Lazerus. Here she is picking up her age-group award from the NYRR Pride Run in June. If you want to see textbook running form while executing "strides", check out this Instagram reel. And one of these days, we're going to share the full story of Gail's invitation to run the London Marathon this year.

Club President Bill Carpenter attended the RunSignUp Summer Symposium in Philadelphia. Apart from the opportunity to reconnect with former Club President, Jonathan Farrell (now a Developer at the company), Bill came away with a wealth of information on managing and promoting races and club events. AMA at [email protected], or watch any of the sessions on YouTube. Click on the video thumbnail below to see some pictures from the event, including a group run with Jonathan.

  • Nicole Muriel from PivOTal Performance will talk about Pelvic Floor exercises for runners
  • A great opportunity to socialize and meet some fellow club members.

Meet the Rockland Road Runners

The next monthly group run will be on Sunday August 14th. It's always the second Sunday, except when it isn't (September's run will be rescheduled because of the South Nyack Race). Register here to make sure you stay informed.
