Hello Everyone,
Without question, the Naches Washington Rally, hosted by Tom and Marty Dittmar, was absolutely amazing!!!!! Thank you both so very much for hosting this rally!!
It was so beautiful at the Running Springs Ranch, and a real privilege meeting and getting to know the owners, Gary and Mary Lukehart. I understand now why they’re so happy; they’ve created a really beautiful ranch, and their memories are lovingly shared in the Red Barn. We loved seeing the original cars (the Red Corvair Gary transformed into a camper, and the Blue Ford Van with 4 leather chairs)! And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the one-of-a-kind “CHUMMER” RV!
Debbie and I also enjoyed meeting new members we hadn’t met before: Larry and Sue Campbell, Jim and Nancy Donald, Lindy Flynn, John Rigdon, Wendell L. Saville, Larry and Patty Stearns, and Don and Lauri Williams.
Did you know our RV club has a Facebook Page?
If you haven’t already joined our club Facebook Page, now would be a great time to do it. Our VP Membership, Dave Shehane has uploaded the official Chinook Alcan Rally video, where the Baja Off Road Edition Chinook is featured competing in the Alcan 5000 Winter Rally! The video runs for about 25 minutes and it’s really cool!!
Las Vegas KOA at Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino - October

Bob and I often visit family on our way to rallies, and our fellow Chinookers have come to feel like family, but this is the only time I’ve felt like we were actually staying with family at a rally. Mary and Gary were so sweet and generous and caring - it seemed like they couldn’t do enough for us. We were told right away, “Feel free to go into any of the buildings on the property and look around.” They made breakfast for the whole bunch one morning and dinner one night. When Gary found out that the ice cream cart was
accidentally
unplugged and our ice cream bars had melted, he showed up with a huge tub of strawberry ice cream and drove around the little ice cream cart dishing it up.
We call it a Homecoming Rally because our Chinooks were returning home, but I think a lot of us Chinookers felt like we were coming home too!

Wednesday: When Bob and I arrived at the Lukehart's ranch on Wednesday, we were really impressed. If you've never been on 153 acres, you don't realize the scope of something that large. And it was just beautiful!
Marty and Tom, our rally hosts, were already there, and Dave and Patsy Shehane arrived a little while later. After we had settled in we saw a classic old work truck approaching, driven by none other than Mary Lukehart, who was coming to greet us.
Thursday:
Before the rest of the group started arriving, we were excited to see a “Chummer” (Hummer Chinook), a Chinook Van, and a Corvair Chinook take their places in the center of the field. We had Don and Lauri Williams park their Baja in the same area because it was the only one at the rally! Poor guys - it was their first rally, and we put them on display.
Although a couple of members had to cancel, we still ended up with 26 rigs at the rally. Members were still arriving when Jerry took his drone pictures.
It was in the 90s, so we tried to hang out in the shade under the trees or in and around the barn, where there were lots of interesting things to see.
That night we gathered at the barn for pizza and wine at our Meet & Greet. Marty had made special Chinook labels for our wine and Chinook solar lights with mason jars.
After dinner Gary took people for rides in his classic Ford.
Friday: The day started with Mary and Gary treating everyone to a delicious breakfast served on the deck of their house. Yep, that's Gary at the griddle.
In the afternoon we had an Open House, so everyone could go around and see what people have done in their rigs. Then, before our potluck, everyone gathered for the traditional group picture. Later, Gary and Mary talked to us about how they ended up buying the ranch. Make sure you check out the videos Jane took (they're in the shared album:
Chinook Homecoming Rally 2 - July 2019 ).
Saturday:
In the morning we had our traditional Tech Talk. In the afternoon Gary served ice cream, and some had fun working a puzzle. A few people had to leave on Saturday, so there were some early goodbyes. But we also got to meet a number of people who came to visit after reading the article in the newspaper, including
Wendell Saville who showed up with his Concourse and subsequently joined the club.
New member Lindy Flynn also arrived on Saturday, driving her 1977 Concourse that she fondly refers to as CoCo Chinook. Even though she could only come for one day of the rally, we were glad she could attend at all, and we were excited to see CoCo.
Our last night at the ranch was really something special. Not only did Mary and Gary treat us to a fabulous dinner of smoked pulled pork and lots of scrumptious side dishes, but they even arranged for entertainment. A cowboy poet regaled us with clever verses that brought smiles and laughter, and a trio who identified themselves as Three Old Guys (I think most of us had them beat on the age thing), played guitars and sang for hours, even delivering “Happy Birthday” to Marcia Johnson.
Sunday:
Time to say goodbye. We'd had such a good time, it was hard leave.
Thanks again to Marty and Tom for hosting this rally. Thanks for caring enough to make all those trips out to the ranch to meet with the Lukeharts. Thanks for doing so much to make sure this Homecoming Rally was a wonderful event for us all. Thanks for being great Chinookers!
Thanks to Mary and Gary Lukehart for inviting us to your home and making us all feel so welcome. Thanks for your hospitality, your kindness and your warmth. Thanks for treating us like family. It was an experience we will never forget.

(Since Jim Geleszinski has stepped down as one of our Members-at-Large, we will need to elect someone to complete his 2017-2020 term.) This very important position is also a Board position and has a three year term.
