Greetings Members

Since our last newsletter in June, we had two very exciting rallies in Victoria and Comox, on Vancouver Island. These two rallies made it worth the long trip to Canada!  There were many activities, met new members, and we all had a wonderful time, as you will see in the pages below.

We also held elections, for the V.P. Rallies and Secretary positions. Debbie Shetland was elected V.P. Rallies by a unanimous vote.

The Secretary position is open as of this date. We need someone to step up to perform this job, as it is vital to the success of our club. Please contact Dave Shehane (Nominating Committee Chairman) at if you are interested. Duties for this position are as follows:
  • “The Club Secretary shall accurately record the of all properly convened Business and Annual Meetings and provide these minutes to the Board of Directors and the Membership for their approval.  Copies of the approved Minutes shall be provided to the Editor of the Club Newsletter and the Club’s Webmaster for appropriate publication.”
I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome our new new members. Thank you all for joining our club, and we hope to see you at future rallies!  Feel free to send us an email with any ideas you may have about possibly hosting a rally!
  • Wayne and Laura Duncan - Gig Harbor, WA
  • Mike and Sue Buettell - Friday Harbor, WA
  • Dan and Katherine Ely - Duvall, WA
  • Chris Rynhart - Shingle Springs, CA
  • Don and Jenelle Alastra - Yuma, AZ
  • Ralf and Gail Pentzek - Gibsons, BC, Canada
  • Douglas Potts and Sara van Ammelrooy - San Diego, CA
  • Jeanie Dardini - Healdsburg, CA
  • John and Marilyn Hocking - Alta Loma, CA
  • Harvey and Jackie Martin (returning members) - Hot Springs, SD
In closing, I would like to extend the club's heartfelt thanks to Linda Blackburn for being an excellent V.P. Rallies these past three years.

We look forward to seeing many of you at the Redding rally in October!

-- Bob Shetland, President

Linda Speaks (V.P. Rallies)
This is my last input into the Chinook newsletter as your Vice President of Rallies.

Dear Fellow  Chinookers:  I have heard that the two Canadian rallies were top tier, wonderful, fun, and the Host and Hostesses were wonderful as well.

I am so grateful for the hosts and hostesses of our Canadian Rallies.

Charlene, I am told, was great. She had a lot on her plate with planning, shopping, cooking, and a sick husband to look after. I am told she is Wonder Woman.

I was also told that some of our Chinookers gave assistance to Charlene in every way they could. Thank you one and all.

I also understand that Gary and Lucy's rally went well too. Thank you both for your hard work.

Since I wasn't there (Ba-Humbug), I'll rely on our NEW VP of Rallies Debbie Shetland to provide you with the inside information on both rallies.

By the way, congratulations to my successor Debbie Shetland. I know she will be great, and I hope that all our members will support her as you have me. I never had any trouble booking a rally - some even volunteered. I had so many great Hosts and Hostesses. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for all of those who have served our club - you made my term as VP very easy.  Love you all.

See you at the rallies,

--Linda Blackburn, Outgoing VP of Rallies
VICTORIA, BC, Canada (13th Annual Rally)
Held July 25 - 29, 2016
Sixteen coaches with 31 Chinookers attended our annual rally at the beautiful West Bay Marine Village RV Park. Many thanks to our hosts Gordon and Charlene Tufford and, of course, to Garry Brown and anyone else who helped out. The location was gorgeous, the possible activities were numerous, the food was plentiful, and the comraderie was fantastic.

The first night, we all gathered at the Tufford site for a Meet & Greet with snacks and catered cold plates, where we enjoyed visiting with old friends and getting to know new ones.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday were free days to enjoy  Butchart Gardens, Royal BC Museum, Empress Hotel, Tour Inner Harbour (walk), Harbour Ferry Tours, Beacon Hill Park, Victoria Chinatown, Downtown Shopping, City Bus Tours, Horse Carriage Tours, Visit BC Legislature Buildings, Whale Watching Tours, and People Watching.

We held our Annual Meeting and dinner at the Gorge Vale Golf Club on Tuesday night, and had tasty pot lucks on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Many of the group gathered around a campfire that last night, compliments of Don and Jenelle Alastra - a fitting end to a wonderful rally.

COMOX, BC, Canada (Mini Rally)
Held July 29 - August 2, 2016
Many of the attendees of the Victoria rally joined a few other Chinookers, for a total of 14 coaches, at the Cape Lazo RV Park in Comox, BC, Canada, where Garry and Lucy Brown put together a wonderful, activity-filled rally.

We gathered in the park pavilion on the first night for a pot luck, and Garry told us all about the plans for the next few days.

On Saturday Garry provided shuttle runs to  the Filberg Festival on the grounds of Filberg Lodge and to the Marina Park  for the artisans shows and stage entertainment.

Sunday we took a bus up to Mt. Washington where we rode the ski lift to the top. At 4000 ft. we had a stupendous view of surrounding mountains and the entire Comox Valley below us, and even met some very friendly birds. Thankfully we went up the mountain when we did because within an hour clouds rolled in and obscured the view at the top. After traveling down the ski lift through the clouds we met up in Mt. Washington Alpine Lodge for lunch. That night we had a pizza party at the Brown's house just up the road from the RV park.

Monday Garry  provided shuttle service into town for a pancake breakfast; parade; car show; and the Build, Bail and Sail boat race  at the marina. Some visited the Hearts Rocks Beach adjacent to the park.
Telegraph Cove, BC, Canada
Ten of our Chinookers stayed on the island and went on to Telegraph Cove after the Comox rally. On the second day some enjoyed corn on the cob and misc. at Jenelle & Don's. That night we went to dinner together. The Earley's left Thursday AM. We had enough fish for a light dinner that night. Friday, Garry & Lucy, Gail & Ralf left. Bob fished Friday afternoon on his own. We didn't see Jenelle & Don again, and we left Saturday AM.

It was a great time on the island with three rallies back to back.
