Greetings Members
Hello Fellow Chinook Members,

Since the last time Debbie and I actually went somewhere in the RV was way back in March of 2020, We decided to take the rig out of storage, get it detailed, and prepared for a very short trip to the Golden Shores RV Park in the Marina, in Long Beach, CA.

All our 3 sons live in Long Beach with their families, and our youngest son Aaron will be celebrating his 38th birthday on Tuesday, Oct. 6. They have a 3 year old daughter, Kaylee (yep, named after the same character in the 2002-2003 Firefly SciFi series and the Serenity SciFi movie from 2005!). We love her to pieces, and even though her mother, Jennifer, nicknamed her a “3-nager” (think teenager), Kaylee’s a lot of fun, and can be really sweet too! So, while Mom and Dad are having a “picnic” somewhere in Long Beach, Grandma and Grandpa will “entertain” her.

We need your Feedback on our Newsletters
We just checked our Newsletter statistics, and one of them showed us that we had a 91% Open rate, which is excellent! Please let us know what you liked or didn’t like about the August RoadRunner Newsletter, as it’s important to know this information, so we can make it better as time goes by.

Last month, we featured this article: Here’s What RV Camping Looked Like 100 Years Ago. What did you think of this article? Please let us know your thoughts, as I thought it was amazing that RV camping started so long ago!

Question for our Members:
Have any of you had a Flash Rally? Please let us know where and when you went, so we all can benefit from your experience.

Travel Log
Want to share an interesting and fun Chinook travel experience? We often share these stories in small groups or one-on-one chats at the rallies, but not everyone gets to hear about our adventures. Now they can! Forward your short write-ups on some of the great trips you've taken in your Chinooks to debbieshetland@gmail.com -- and don't forget some photos!

In closing, it goes without saying that we really miss seeing our Chinook members at our Rallies, and we are hoping 2021 will bring better times, so we can have our rallies, starting with Lake Pleasant, Arizona in March 2021!

We held our first Zoom Board Meeting on September 27th. Attendees were Bob Shetland, Debbie Shetland, Dave Shehane, Patsy Shehane, Jane Earley, and Mary Coleman. Dale Frank was unable to attend because it was his wife Mary's birthday - Happy Birthday, Mary! (even though it's a little late). Dale did send a message for the newsletter that we all agree with, "We’re missing the get-togethers, and really looking forward to the campouts next year! Everyone stay safe and let's have a great next year!"
We also will be hosting our Annual Meeting and Elections via Zoom in November 2020. Details will be forthcoming soon!
~ Bob Shetland, President

Flash Rally Anyone?
Just because we aren't having any formal rallies for the rest of this year, that doesn't mean that a few of us can't get together, as long as we stay safe - hand sanitizer, hand washing, mask wearing, and socially distancing!

Let me know that you're going to an RV Park on certain dates, and I'll let the membership know in case anyone would like to join you. That's just about it. You don't have to organize anything, and everyone makes their own arrangements.

To Join the Chinook RV Club Facebook Page
Our Facebook Page is private and hidden, so if you haven't already joined, there's a little process you need to follow:

  1. If a club member wants to join our club's FB page they must first be signed up with Facebook.
  2. I can only send invitations to FB Friends, so send me a friend request.
  3. I will then issue an invitation to the club's FB page, which the member must accept to complete the process.
  4. Then, I will “unfriend” the member in my personal FB account. Please do not take this as a slight! Our friendship will still exist at the Chinook RV Club page, but there is no telling if our social media preferences align, and I do not want to take a chance that our individual preferences would in any way endanger our Chinook related relationship!

Invited members can use this link to access our club Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/961323693981878/, or enter Chinook RV Club in the Facebook search window.

THE CHINOOK SONG (OPUS THREE) by Al Enriquez 9/17/2003
(Sung to the tune of On Top of Old Smokey)
WE ARE HAPPY RV'ERS
WE SELDOM GET SHOOK
AND OF ALL OUR POSSESSIONS
WE LOVE OUR CHINOOK

WE TRAVEL THE HIGHWAYS
WITH NO CARES TO BEAR
WHEN WE STOP AND HOOK-UP
MOST PEOPLE STARE

THEY GATHER AROUND
TO ADMIRE OUR RIG
WE ASK THEM INSIDE
IF THEY'RE NOT TOO BIG

REFRAIN

WE'VE TRAVELED THE COUNTRY
AND WHEREVER WE ROAM
IN OUR TWENTY-ONE FOOTER
WE NEVER MISS HOME

WE GO EAST AND WEST
NORTH AND SOUTH TOO
WE FACE HILLS AND MOUNTAINS
THEY'RE EASY TO DO

WITH ONLY TWO SEATS
IT IS QUITE A THRILL
TO NOT HAVE TO WORRY
IF GRANDKIDS ARE STILL

TRAILWAGONS GO FORWARD
KEEP CHINOOKS WITH ZEST
FOR AS LONG AS WE'RE ABLE
WE'LL BE DRIVING THE BEST!

WE ARE HAPPY RV'ERS
WE SELDOM GET SHOOK
AND OF ALL OUR POSSESSIONS
WE LOVE OUR CHINOOK
