Shana tovah 2019
Wishing you and your family a sweet New Year. L'Shana Tovah!
Customs to Celebrate the New Year

Though we've been in school for five weeks already, this week we turn our attention to the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. To begin our school year, Heilicher faculty studied the words, " keva " (fixed), " kavannah " (spiritual intention), and " minhag " (custom). We have fixed prayers, such as the Shema, prayers with specific spiritual intentions, such as Debbie Friedman's  Mi Shebeirach  healing prayer, which is based on a fixed prayer, and customs that have developed over time, but feel like fixed "laws", such as inviting people to say the Torah blessings ( aliya ) when celebrating something.

2020 Annual Benefit

We hope you will join us, Friday, October 11 at 8:15 a.m. (after morning drop-off), for the Annual Benefit Kick-Off meeting. Come learn more about how to get involved and what the Annual Benefit entails.

We are looking for people who want to help spread Heilicher pride and get involved with the 2020 Annual Benefit. We need your help to build excitement for the event, serve as a sounding board on benefit issues, and sit on one of our benefit committees. The time commitment is not overwhelming - it usually entails just a few conveniently-scheduled meetings, over the next few months, with some additional emailing back and forth.

The benefit is taking place on Thursday, March 19, 2020. The benefit will honor Heilicher parents Nancy and Neil Fink. There are several committees where you can help serve to make the Annual Benefit successful for our school.

Health History
Family Directory and Health History

If you have not done so already, please  fill out a current Health History Form for each of your children.
  • Login to Sycamore using the login information you use to retrieve report cards.
  • On the right hand side of the Home Page in the "Online Forms Events" section, click the Student Health History Form.
  • Complete for each student. Note: you may need to scroll down to complete all of the questions depending on the screen size you are viewing it on. If you have more than one student you will need to click on the same Health History button to start a new form for each subsequent student.
This is not a form that needs to be provided by a doctor's office. It is just a recap of your student(s) health from year to year, so we have current and pertinent information enabling us to provide a safe and effective learning environment.

Please reach out to the  Heilicher Office  with any questions.

Grades 6, 7, and 8 Theater Program
long shofar

All sixth, seventh, and eighth graders will participate in a theater program designed around themes of the Jewish New Year, run by Exposed Brick Theater, over four days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. This workshop will take place at Heilicher.

At the Jewish New Year we engage in self-assessment, called Cheshbon Ha-Nefesh, in which we make amends with people. In the workshops, Exposed Brick will help our middle schoolers examine what it means to make up with other people by acknowledging our transgressions, apologizing, and asking for forgiveness.

Parents are welcome to attend the All-School Yom Kippur assembly on Tuesday, October 8, 10:40 a.m., to catch a glimpse of their students' work.
