Refugee Resettlement 101 - What States Need to Know
There is still time to sign up and join the conversation on refugee resettlement and the role state governments play in the process. In coordination with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), we are hosting a discussion about the nuts and bolts of refugee resettlement:
  • How someone qualifies for refugee status;
  • The resettlement process abroad; and
  • Role of local resettlement offices

Supreme Court Updates
U.S. Supreme Court Upholds ACA
In the case of California v. Texas the individual and state plaintiffs argued that the ACA’s requirement to obtain health insurance is no longer a tax now the penalty is eliminated and as a result the entire ACA is unconstitutional. In an opinion written by Justice Breyer, the Court held the challengers in this case lacked standing to bring their case because they couldn’t meet the “fairly traceable” element of the test for standing. In an effort to support equitable access to vaccines globally, Pfizer and BioNTech recently announced plans to provide 500 million doses of their COVID-19 vaccine to the U.S. Government at not-for-profit pricing. Members of the Legislative Council on River Governance (LCRG) are planning to convene for an in-person meeting August 22-24. Full program details and registration will be coming soon. Updates on the information tour plans are noted below to help with planning decisions.
