A crocheted cushion cover. On one side the design depicts the profile image of an eagle, wings outstretched, perched on a bell with text that reads: GOD / BLESS / AMERICA. On the other the cover has large crocheted initials: F.D.R.

This needlework cushion cover was sent to Franklin Roosevelt by the maker, Florence Ables of Sallis, Mississippi.
As a young boy Franklin Roosevelt would explore the thousand acres of forest along the Hudson River that was his backyard. He loved to collect birds and became a member of the American Ornithologists’ Union as a teenager, a passion that continued for the rest of his life.

Beatrix Farrand's 150th Birthday Celebration

The National Park Service and the Beatrix Farrand Garden Association host a birthday celebration and the 110th anniversary of her garden at Bellefield. Featuring a performance of women composers who were contemporaries of Ferrand by the Garden String Quartet.
