Welcome to The Root, Family Tree Clinic's monthly newsletter. Happy autumn! We've been seeing an uptick in homemade soups, cozy sweaters, and umbrellas in the office over the last few weeks. The leaves have begun their yearly transformation, birds are making their journey South, and Halloween season has begun to pop up around the neighborhood. In these moments of transition, while the world physically changes around us, we continue to celebrate an unchanging merit at Family Tree Clinic: the deeply inspiring work of our coworkers and the way they show up for their teams, patients, students, and everyone in and around the Family Tree Clinic community. The Root team is so darn proud to work alongside them!
In Solidarity, Family Tree Clinic
Call Me, Curious
We're so excited to share a new event coming up at the end of the month! In collaboration with the Minnesota Sexual Health Hotline, the Eli Coleman Institute for Sexual and Gender Health, the Gender and Sexuality Center for Queer and Trans Life, Call Me, Curious is an interactive dialogue on sex, desire, and wellness. Featuring live responses from sex educators and therapists, this free event will answer all your spicy (and non-spicy!) questions around sexual health and relationships. This event is free, open to everyone, and does not require an RSVP. So, rally your friends who are excited about sexual health education and join us on October 26th, from 6–8pm at the Whole Music Club in Coffman Memorial Union. If you want to ask a question ahead of the event, fill out this form! Call Me, Curious

Community Spotlight Series
If you follow us on Instagram or LinkedIn, you've already been graced with our new Community Spotlight series! If not, welcome! Every Wednesday, we are celebrating the community members that make Family Tree Clinic's mission and vision achievable. As a bonus, the Root team is getting to spend more time getting to know our co-workers, volunteers, board members, and donors.
As a special gift to our Root community, we're sharing a sneak peek of tomorrow's spotlight with June (she/her), one of Family Tree's Clinic Assistants.
Please introduce yourself!
I’m June (she/her) and I work at Family Tree as a Clinic Assistant. I love going on walks around Bde Maka Ska with my partner, listening to science podcasts, and practicing tarot. I also teach karate in my free time, and will be leading two new community ed classes through Minneapolis Public Schools this fall.
What do you love about your role? I remember how scary it was the first time I came to get care, and how the non-judgmental attitudes of the staff helped reassure me that I was going to be okay and get the help I needed. Now as a Clinic Assistant at Family Tree, I love being able to provide that same sense of safety to our patients.
Why work at Family Tree Clinic? How does our work inspire you?
As a patient at Family Tree I really appreciated the focus on low-barrier affordable healthcare, and on striving to be a part of the community it serves. I applied after finishing up my last service year as an AmeriCorps volunteer because I wanted to work at an organization that believes healthcare is a human right and shares my values around the importance of equity, centering the needs of the patient, and providing trauma-informed care.
