SEPLA-CON 2023

Change, Challenge and Choice

The GEMS Event Management team in partnership with the NSW Special Education Principals' and Leaders' Association, delivered an incredible SEPLACON 2023 Conference at the ICC in Sydney in July.

The theme for SEPLA-CON 2023 was: 'Change, Challenge, Choice'. A Conference for educators of children with special needs, this year’s conference focused on the changes in an evolving education system, the challenges educators face and the choices they can make.

The conference saw approximately 1,400 delegates over the course of two days. It was fantastic to have the Deputy Premier and Minister for education Prue Car open this event. This is

a major achievement for all special educators.

The social highlight of the Conference was the Conference Dinner, hosted onboard Clearview Glass Boat Cruises with entertainment provided by Baker Boys Band and a Play-for-fun casino provided by OMG Entertainment. It's going to be tough to top this one next year!

Four Seasons Hotel

The Rocks Precinct, Sydney

Members of the GEMS Event Management Team were lucky enough to be invited to the only Four Seasons Hotel in Australia in Sydney’s iconic The Rocks Precinct.

The site tour began on the Ground floor, where the Grand Ballroom is located. There is a spacious pre-function area leading into the Grand Ballroom, making it the perfect location for all your conference needs.

Level 2 boasts a wide range of break-out spaces, which can be used as a larger space, or separated into 3 smaller spaces, depending on the needs of your conference. The Studio space can also be set for a stunning pre-function gathering and Dinner, with immaculate floor to ceiling glass windows showing a prime view of the CBD.

On Level 2, you will also find a Wine Cellar, which is from the original building prior to the Four Seasons, which makes for a beautiful

pre-function space.

The Four Seasons boasts immaculate accommodation, ranging from entry level rooms to presidential suites, on-site hairdresser and spa for those needing some relaxation time following a busy day in and out of conference sessions.

2023 FIFA Women's World Cup

Michelle Haramis Volunteers

Event Coordinator Michelle Haramis recently participated as a Volunteer for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The first women’s world

cup to be held in the Southern Hemisphere has garnered the highest attendance to date. We asked Michelle about her motivations for volunteering at this event.

Why I wanted to Volunteer?

“I had two main reasons to volunteer for the Women’s World Cup 2023. I knew that career-wise it would be a fantastic opportunity to get experience working for a major sporting event,

to see how an organisation that has organised tournaments for over 50 years works. The other aspect of this event that increased my drive to volunteer was that I could be a small part of a tournament that I knew would change not only women’s soccer in Australia but women’s sport

in Australia overall.”

The Matilda’s unprecedented success at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the spotlight on women’s sport in Australia has broken broadcast records. These records have not been seen since the 2000 Olympics, highlighting the impact that

the Matilda’s have had on our Nation. As a result of the success of the Women's World Cup the Australian Government has announced a $200 million investment into women's sport.

“The Matilda's have given us a moment of national inspiration. This is about seizing that opportunity for the next generation, investing in community sporting facilities for women and girls around Australia,” said Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as part of the announcement.

PCMA Labs
Workshop: The Future of Work

Members of the GEMS Team attended the PCMA Labs The Future of Work: Impact of AI on the Workforce Workshop in Barangaroo. Ben Hamer and Daniel Tjan took a deep dive into how the impact of technology, and the rapid expansion of AI, have impacted the work-life balance and job roles. Every attendee had admitted to using some form of AI Technology in their jobs.

The key takeaways from the workshop were that AI boosts productivity, as a task that would generally take an hour is now culled back with the effective use of the technology that we have available. This in turn allows us to live in this fast-paced world with a more friendly work-life balance.

Attendees were lucky enough to test out the

new PCMA AI platform SPARK BETA. SPARK technology allows you to enter minimal details that produce your entire agenda, briefings, presentations, and much more. Whilst still in the early stages, the effectiveness of this platform impressed all attendees at the Workshop.

It has opened our eyes to the technology available at the tip of our fingers. To improve not only the effectiveness for the events we manage, but also what we can offer our clients and delegates at our own events.
