Prescription drug coverage cap for 2026

The Medicare Part D out-of-pocket cap for 2026 will increase from $2000 to $2100. Once that cap is met, Medicare beneficiaries will pay nothing for Part D drugs for the remainder of the calendar year. Read over your plan’s Evidence of Coverage (EOC) to know that particular plan’s details. If you need help understanding your costs and benefits, call our SHIBA Helpline for assistance: 503-655-8269

The Benefits of Volunteering

There are many benefits to volunteering. Whether you’re looking to connect with your community or wanting to find a way to share your skills and life experiences, volunteering with a meaningful program like SHIBA can meet those needs. Most SHIBA volunteers provide one-on-one Medicare counseling, but there are many other ways to support our program as well.

For more information, contact Clackamas County SHIBA program coordinator Kristina John Baptiste at kjohnbaptiste@clackamas.us, or complete the volunteer counselor application.

Medicare Open Enrollment Period

Marketing Violations

Medicare beneficiaries are often contacted frequently by insurance plans and agents during the Open Enrollment Period. However, Medicare has specific rules about how they can contact beneficiaries and market their services:

  • Unsolicited text messages and phone calls are NOT allowed.
  • Do not be pressured to enroll in a plan, either by being given a shorter time limit or being offered extra benefits or gifts to enroll early.
  • Plans cannot suggest they represent or are endorsed by Medicare.
  • Do not provide your Medicare number, Social Security number, or bank information to anyone before you decide to enroll in a plan.

Volunteer SHIBA counselors provide free, objective Medicare facts to help beneficiaries make informed decisions for themselves; no products or services are sold by SHIBA.

The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) is a partner program of SHIBA that educates Medicare beneficiaries on how to detect, prevent and report Medicare waste, fraud and abuse. If you have any concerns about Medicare fraud, please call us at 503-655-8269.
